SPECIAL EVENTS UPCOMING EVENTS H Trivia Thursdays at Davis Love Grill Thursday, September 20, 6:30 p.m. Ready for some good old fashioned competition? Then it s time to round up your friends and head to Davis Love Grill for Trivia. Happy Hour pricing until 7 p.m. Prizes go to the top three winners! To participate, please make your reservation for a time prior to 6:30 p.m., when Trivia begins. H The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force in Savannah, GA presents: A World War II Bomber Pilot's Story in The Cloister Clubroom Friday, September 21, 5:30 p.m. The United States Eighth Air Force was founded in Savannah, Georgia in January 1942, with seven men and no aircraft. In less than two years, it would muster 2,000 heavy bombers and 500 fighter planes to bomb Nazi Germany, as the greatest air armada of all time. We will never see its likes again. Eventually, 350,000 young Americans served in the Mighty Eighth. From air bases in England, they took the fight to the enemy in daylight bombing raids of the factories and other facilities needed by Hitler to conduct the war. Losses of American airmen were horrendous, but the Mighty Eighth never failed to carry the battle to the enemy. Lieutenant Paul Grassey, a young college student, volunteered and became a pilot of a B-24 heavy bomber in the Mighty Eighth. Today, at age 95, Lieutenant Grassey is one of the very few living airmen who survived perilous bombing missions against Berlin and other German cities. Come hear firsthand his wartime experiences and the role of the Mighty Eighth in defeating Hitler s plans for the Third Reich. This is a story that needs to be told and remembered of a time when our nation and its allies were in dire peril and how men like Lieutenant Grassey rose to the occasion through their patriotism, courage, and valor to defeat the Nazi war machine. Complimentary. Reservations required. H Family Fun Friday at Davis Love Grill Friday, September 21, 5:30 8:30 p.m. Bring your families to Davis Love Grill for a night of family fun. The kid's buffet will have all of their favorites. This is the perfect way to start your weekend! Reservations required. H Cars and Coffee at The Market Saturday, September 22, 9-10:30 a.m. If you're a car enthusiast with a car you'd like to show - vintage to hot rods to supercars and everything in between - then bring it to The Market. Have a cup and connect with fellow car buffs. Reservations not taken. H Driftwood Putting Course at The Lodge Open Wednesday Monday, 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Tuesday, 1 10 p.m. Driftwood offers a fun opportunity to experience real golf in a beautiful setting. Beverage service will be available daily from 4-9 p.m. Play is complimentary. Reservations not taken. Celebrating our 90th Anniversary Friday, October 12 On October 12, 1928, The Cloister opened its doors with a celebration. We invite you to help mark this milestone on the same date, 90 years later. The evening will feature a strolling reception with heavy hors d oeuvres and many Sea Island favorites, including a raid on the kitchen. Live music with Dave Damiani and The No Vacancy Orchestra will have you dancing the night away as they play hits from across the decades. For ages 21 and up. Learn more at What's Happening on www.seaisland.com. Reservations required. Gran-Con November 22-23 In today s world, things are changing so rapidly, that grandparents, parents, and kids often seem to be speaking different languages. With this in mind, Sea Island has created Gran-Con, a two-day event designed to encourage the two grands to connect, building a bridge for dialogue between grandparents and grandchildren. Subject matter experts from different fields will discuss a variety of topics including: l Ways to communicate via social media, texting, etc. ensuring that what you think you are communicating you actually are l Subjects for communication such as the relatively new but fast-growing world of esports l Tips about how to live longer, healthier lives that are applicable across generations l Ensuring that the values of the family continue through the generations in the way they distribute their wealth. Learn more and see speaker bios at www.gran-con.com. Reservations required.
