THE WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA HISTORICAL MAGAZINE (ISSN 0043-4035) is published quarterly by The Historical Society of Western Pennsylvania, 4338 Bigelow Boulevard, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15213 (Telephone 412/681-5533). Membership $25.00 (vary); regular subscription $22.00. The Western Pennsylvania Historical Magazine publishes articles and documents on the history of Western Pennsylvania. This region isbroadly defined as the western portion of the state and the headwaters of the Ohio River system. Manuscript articles on topics outside this area are considered only ifthey are of special historical importance. Atleast two outside readers referee each submission (please allow twelve weeks for review). Authors should follow the University of Chicago's A Manual of Style (1982 edition). Photographs and other illustrations are welcome. Please submit two copies of the manuscript witha stamped, self-addressed envelope. The manuscript must be typed doublespaced (pica type preferred), with footnotes double-spaced at the end. Itshould not exceed 30 pages. Persons wishing to review books should submit a vita indicating fields of interest and current position. Recent Ph.D.s and graduate students are particularly encouraged to contribute. Unsolicited reviews willnot be accepted. The Society does not assume responsibility for statements made by contributors.
