Under Care & Staffing the nursing home was compliant with 20 out of 21 regulations. regulations, the inspection team would consider that the nursing home provides a good standard of Care and Staffing for residents. Summary Findings of Current Nursing Home Inspection Under Management the nursing home was compliant with 27 out of 27 regulations. regulations, the inspection team would consider the nursing home to have a good standard of management. (This section should be deleted if no noncompliances have been recorded) Under Physical Environment the nursing home was compliant with 7 out of 11 regulations. regulations, there are issues that need to be addressed as outlined below in relation to the Physical Environment. Based on the most recent nursing home inspection the nursing home is non-compliant under one or more regulations. For more details see below. Article 12 The registered proprietor and the person in charge of the nursing home shall: (e) shall ensure that a safe floor covering is provided. In room ** the floor covering around the base to the toilet was damp and discoloured. Replace floor covering. Within 3 weeks of receipt of this report. Article 11.2 In every nursing home there shall be provided suitable and sufficient accommodation which meets the minimum standards as follows:- (h) suitable and sufficient lighting and ventilation, with natural lighting and ventilation in rooms which are regularly occupied by dependent persons. Compliance/Non Compliance It was noted at the time of inspection that a of 2
the old sash windows in the bathrooms were very difficult to open. There was no other means of ventilation in these rooms. The sliding mechanism on the sash windows shall be investigated and repaired as necessary to ensure that windows can be opened easily and adequate ventilation can be provided in these areas. Within 1 month of receipt of this report. Article 14 The registered proprietor and the person in charge of the nursing home shall:- (a) ensure that the nursing home and its curtilage is maintained in a proper state of repair and in a clean and hygienic condition; i. It was noted that the tiling on the windowsill in the w.c. ** was cracked and damaged. ii. It was noted that the top step of the iron stairs which provide an emergency fire escape from room ** was cracked and damaged. iii. The painted surface on the wall beside the wash hand basin in w.c. ** was chipped and damaged. i. The tiling must be repaired or replaced. ii. Investigate damage and repair as necessary. iii. The wall surface must be repainted. A smooth surface is required to ensure that effective cleaning can be carried out. i. Within 1 month of receipt of this report. ii. Article 14 The Registered Proprietor and the person in charge of the nursing home shall:- (b) ensure that there are adequate arrangements for the prevention of infection, infestation, toxic conditions, or spread of infection and infestation at the nursing home. On the day of the inspection one resident ** who was known to be positive for MRSA. Although an up to date care plan was available, on inspection of his room 3
no aprons or handtowels were not available in his room, to facilitate handwashing for staff. Provide adequate hand drying facilities to all residents rooms, and aprons to ensure personal protective equipment is available at all times, as per Nursing Home policy. Review and update policy on prevention and management of infection, to include handwashing, and MRSA. Include implementation and review dates. Within three weeks of receipt of this report. Article 5 (b) The registered proprietor and the person in charge shall ensure that there is provided for dependent persons maintained in a nursing home privacy to the extent that the person is able to undertake personal activities in private. Article 11.2(a) In every nursing home there shall be provided suitable and sufficient accommodation which meets the minimum standards as follows adequate accommodation and space in single and shared sleeping rooms and portable screens or screening curtains to ensure privacy for individual persons. The curtains hanging around the beds in shared rooms **, **, **, **, **, and ** did not ensure privacy for some residents occupying these shared bedrooms. Review current screening in place and provide adequate screening to ensure privacy of the residents in rooms **, **, **, **, **, and **. Within one month of receipt of this inspection report.
