Registration Guide HCANJ MEMBER FACILITY $ 700 NON-MEMBER FACILITY $ 1,500 Registration is PER FACILITY, NOT PER INDIVIDUAL. In order to register, the facility must include the completed facility badge registration form listing the names of their employees who will attend. Attendees must be employed at the facility for which they are being registered. Companies who own and/or manage more than one facility CANNOT register all facilities under their company name. Registration will not be accepted without the facility registration form and payment in full. See complete rules and regulations at http://www.hcanj.org/facrules. ADMINISTRATOR EDUCATION CONTACT HOURS: This continuing education program is approved for LNHA and CALA by the Health Care Association of New Jersey (HCANJ) and is in compliance with N.J.A.C. 8:34-7.3 to provide licensed nursing home administrator (LNHA) and certified assisted living administrator (CALA) education credits accepted by the Nursing Home Administrators Licensing Board (NHALB). This education activity may only be used for continuing education credit and not to meet academic college credits. PA and DE credits have been to the State Board of Examiners of Nursing Home Administrators and are pending approval. On November 28, 2017, Phase II of the new federal regulations and requirements for nursing facilities will go into effect along with a new survey process. This technological advancement has brought the world closer, but with it comes an everchanging legal landscape. This session will address the basics of social media, granny cams used in long term care settings, & the legal rights & responsibilities of providers, staff, residents & families who may be implicated by such use. Brian will clarify the definition of social media and its components, and discuss how to recognize and identify risks associated with social media, as well as suggest how to prevent possible negative situations related to social media used by patients, family and staff. Tim will explain the legal and practical considerations of the use of granny cams, give suggestions on policy development, and discuss how to recognize / identify the risks and benefits the granny cam can have in the long term care setting.

Erin and Maureen will explain how to validate the feelings of a person living with dementia, how to address behavioral expression without medication while still meeting the needs of your residents, and how to engage and connect with the residents. Learn the importance of doing with, not to, and how to apply the Positive Physical Approach (PPA) and Hand Under Hand (HUH) in everyday situations. The Cullen Law, (Health Care Professional Responsibility and Reporting Enhancement Act) was passed in November 2005. This law places obligations on long term care communities to report on the actions of nursing staff that place resident welfare at risk. This session will provide guidance about what ethical issues arise under the Cullen Law, & how these issues impact liability exposure of the facility. The panel will also discuss your obligations of reporting incidents to the government and how to preserve evidence in anticipation of litigation. Healthcare-associated infections (HAI) are largely preventable. Per the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), infections occur far too often in nursing homes. Pamela will review the new infection prevention and control regulation, and suggest facility actions for preparing for the survey process related to these federal guidelines. Jessica and Carol will conclude your session with an overview of the Infection Control Assessment and Response (ICAR) teams research, compare to the CMS pilot survey, and describe how the findings can guide improvement activities and prevent disease transmission. Are you following the correct guidelines while applying for Medicaid, obtaining prior authorization, submitting a bill, or filing a grievance for non-payment? Nikoleta and Ivana will discuss how to successfully secure Medicaid eligibility and how to overcome common problems that may arise during the application process. Geralyn will continue with a summary of the NJ FamilyCare policies, describe the process to submit inquiries regarding billing and prior authorization, and provide an overview and address questions regarding NJ FamilyCare MCO contracts.

All New Jersey long term care facilities, whether or not they are currently HCANJ members, are eligible to win, provided that they have paid in full for the 69th Annual Convention and Expo at the time of the drawing. Entry ballots will be available on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at 8:30 a.m. at the entrance to the Exhibit Arena. Each eligible facility wishing to participate must complete a ballot. Only one entry is allowed per facility. The facility owners or administrators/executive directors must be present at the drawing to accept prizes. If the owner or administrator/executive director is not present when their facility name is drawn, the facility will be disqualified and another facility entry form will be drawn.
