South Central Power Company Foundation 2018 Technical Scholarship Application Instructions: Please complete the application form and print it for submission. All supporting information must be handwritten or typed. Incomplete submissions may be subject to immediate disqualification. Scholarship: Students will be eligible for a $1,000 scholarship. Scholarship payments are mailed directly to the student. Scholarship recipients are responsible for any tax liabilities that may apply. Eligibility Requirements for All Applicants: 1. Applicants must be graduating high school seniors who have all the basic credits for technical school entrance. Applicants must enroll in a technical program at an accredited or state licensed two-year college, career school or technical school that provides mostly employment-preparation skills for trained labor. 2. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.50 on a 4.0 scale or equivalent standing on a non-traditional scale. 3. The parents or guardians of all students must live in a county within the certified electric territory of South Central Power Company. 4. Any applicant who has received a full ride scholarship (tuition, room, board and books) to the school or his/her choice is not eligible for this scholarship. 5. All scholarships must be accepted in the first academic year after the proof of enrollment is received by the South Central Power Company. In the event students are unable to fulfill their enrollment obligation under this program, the awards are forfeited.
Required Information: 1. Submit a copy of your high school grade transcript. 2. Documentation of apprenticeships or internships you may have completed. 3. Submit two (2) Letters of Recommendation from a non-family member. For example: Teacher, guidance counselor, community leader of an organization to which you belong, someone where you volunteered or other organizations or employers. 4. Submit a typed personal essay limited to one page (500 words maximum) including the following: a. Who are you? b. What are your goals? c. How will this scholarship help you reach your goals? d. What personal traits do you believe are necessary to be successful in life? e. How will you be using the education to give back to the community?
