Accessible text version October 25, 2017 To Whom It May Concern: Enclosed are applications and guidelines for the LI2Day Scholarship and the Maria A. Sciara Scholarship. Both scholarships are administered by LI2DAY. Please pay careful attention to our eligibility requirements for each scholarship before distributing to your students. Be certain that students receive a copy of the appropriate Application Guidelines with the Scholarship Application. Eligibility requirements are as follows. LI2Day: This is a $2,500 scholarship that will be awarded to 5 graduating seniors in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. LI2Day has awarded OVER $200,000 in scholarships to Long Island students in the past 14 years. The student must reside with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer and/or other women s cancers, or have resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from breast cancer and/or other women s cancers. Maria A. Sciara : Those aspiring to become teachers will be given extra consideration for this scholarship. This is a $2,000 scholarship that will be awarded to 3 graduating seniors in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. $6,000 has been earmarked for three (3) scholarships. The student must reside or have resided with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of any cancer other than breast cancer and/or other women s cancers or have resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from any cancer other than breast cancer and/or other women s cancers. Applicants for either scholarship must also reside in Nassau or Suffolk County. The application and all accompanying materials must be submitted together in a single package. No incomplete applications will be considered. The due date for both applications is April 2, 2018. There will be no exceptions. Sciara Scholarship Committee of the Board of LI2DAY. Emphasis is placed on how well the essay addresses how the applicant was affected by cancer. The LI2Day Walk Scholarship Guidelines: The LI2DAY Scholarship, supported by the LI2Day Walk, was established to recognize the profound effect of breast cancer on a family. OVER $200,000 in scholarships has been awarded since 2005. The LI2Day Scholarship is designed to provide a one-time award of $2,500 to a high school senior who resides with a parent or guardian who is a survivor of breast cancer and/or other women s cancer or resided with a parent or guardian who has passed from breast cancer and/or other women s cancer. $12,500 has been earmarked for five (5) scholarships in 2018. Please read all instructions carefully and make sure your application is complete. ONLY COMPLETE APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED. Names of the Scholarship recipients will be posted on our website (www.li2daywalk.org) after May 15, 2018. The awarding of these scholarships will be based on an evaluation of the following criteria: 1. Content and completeness of Application, including school, community, and outside activities 2. Quality and content of Personal Statement (this criteria is very important) (One page or less) 3. Letter of Recommendation 4.
