August 21, 2018 Dear Student and Parent, Attached is the application form for the LT Band Parent Organization HIGH SCHOOL PRIVATE LESSON SCHOLARSHIPS. These scholarships will be awarded to students who are currently in grades 9-12. The mission of the LT Band Parents is to support the band students of LTHS and the music program in general. Over time the private lesson scholarships will give hundreds of LT Band students the opportunity to achieve musical excellence. The music teachers at LTHS feel strongly that the best way for a student to improve on a musical instrument is to study one on one with a private instructor. Most of our outstanding Junior and Senior instrumentalists have taken private lessons every year since middle school. These students are generally the ones who participate in the top ensembles at LTHS. We are most interested in awarding private lesson scholarships to students who have made or intend to make a long-term commitment to private study. It is our expectation that private lessons will continue after the scholarship has concluded. It is also important to us that the skills learned during these lessons be used to benefit the Lake Travis Band Program. Scholarships for students currently in grades 9-12 are valued at up to $500.00 each. The money is paid directly to the private teacher in monthly installments during the school year. To apply for a scholarship, the following forms must be filled out and returned by the due date: 1. the APPLICATION 2. the STUDENT page 3. the PARENT page All completed applications are due on Monday, August 27, 2018 to one of the LTHS Band Directors. Students receiving scholarships will be expected to be active participants in the LTHS Band. Students must have an exceptional attendance record; meet all the expectations of their concert band (Including Region Band, Solo & Ensemble). Students unable to fulfill this requirement will forfeit their scholarships. Students may receive a High School Private Lesson Scholarship only one time. A committee of music teachers will read the applications and the decision regarding the recipients will be made within a week. Criteria for scholarship selection are listed on the back of the application page. Students and parents should read these, and acknowledge their understanding by signing at the bottom. All applicants will be notified upon approval of their scholarships. Sincerely, Richard Hicks Lake Travis High School Director of Bands

To be offered a music scholarship is an honor, and just as applicants and their parents expect and anticipate a higher level of musical accomplishment with the addition of private lessons, so does the music department expect a higher level of involvement from the recipients of scholarship awards. Students are expected to put forth the effort needed to be fully prepared for all lessons and to attend lessons on a regular basis. As opportunities become available in the music department (solo and ensemble contest, pit orchestra performances for musicals, etc.) the recipients of scholarships are expected to take advantage of these worthwhile opportunities. A student s failure to meet these expectations may result in revocation of the scholarship. Parent Signature Student Signature
