767TH BOMBARDMENT SQUADRON (H) 461ST BOMBARDMENT GROUP APO 520 US ARMY STATEMENT I was flying left waist gunner on 18 December 1944. When we arrived at the IP, Freudenthal, Germany, plane #63 looked to be OK. We were on the bomb run about one minute when I saw a couple of bursts of flak near #63. Number 3 engine started windmilling and a few seconds later they dropped their bombs and pulled off to the left. They didn t seem to be losing too much altitude when they peeled off. We dropped our bombs and I never saw them again. The ship was under control and I see no reason why everyone should not have gotten out safely if they were not hit by flak before the ship turned around. /s/ Herbert N. Webster T/Sgt., 767 Bomb Sq
