2 TOPEKA WEST HIGH SCHOOL CHARGER NEWS From the Desk of Dustin Dick, Principal Welcome back to the start of another exciting school year at Topeka West! Westside Pride s Back to School Picnic and Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 16th at 5:30 pm. Please join us for the official 2016-2017 back to school kick off! This summer we did not have nearly as many projects happening on campus this summer as we did last year. C Building is getting new floor tile which should be done by school start. We are also waiting for the annexes to be removed, which should happen in the next week to ten days from what we have been told. Other than that, Wayne and the custodial crew have been working hard to ensure that the campus and classrooms are clean and ready to go for the start of the new school year. The buildings that I have been through look great! Please thank Wayne and the other custodians for their hard work over the summer for all that they do to ensure that the building is clean and ready to go for the start of the school year. Many of the coaches and sponsors have also put in many hours throughout the summer with the students in their programs. I have witnessed many students on campus throughout summer involved in activities and that would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of all of our coaches and sponsors. I have really noticed significant growth in the number of ladies participating in summer weights and conditioning and other summer workouts. We have also had many students working with coaches in summer leagues around the state. We have a few new additions to the staff for the school year, please make them feel welcome as many of you have already. They are: Gamel (Miles) Bolok Special Education Elizabeth (Liz) Calloni Art Mary Curry FACS Jessica Gragg PE Nathan Hanna Special Education Kristin Henke Math Sydney Ho Math Max Nehrbass Special Education Jeff Schuh Special Education Taylyn Schwartz ELC/ Tina Ruecker KCSL Parent Social Studies Engagement Coordinator TBD JROTC James Wymore Science Jackie Van Petten Counselor Michael Williams Community in Schools Lastly, I would like to encourage each of you to be as involved as you can during your student s educational career here at Topeka West. Our parent support group, Westside Pride, will have their first meeting on Monday, September 12th. What a great way to get started with being involved at Topeka West High School Home of the Chargers! Everything Westside Pride does directly benefits the students at Topeka West. 2015-2016 was great school year, with a lot of positive energy! I look forward to building on that throughout 2016-2017! Enjoy the rest of your summer. GO CHARGERS! The Topeka Public Schools, Unified School District No. 501 is committed to affirmative action and equal opportunity.
