Position Description: Associate Director of Resident Care Department: Leadership Reports to: Director of Resident Care Effective Date: June 2015 Position Overview: The Associate Director of Resident (ADRC)Care is accountable for the effective day to day operation of Nursing Services in accordance with the Mission, Vision and Values of the Home, Resident Bill of Rights, applicable legislation and regulations, corporate policies and procedures and the collective agreements. This position provides back-up coverage for the Director of Resident Care (DRC) role in their absence. Key Accountabilities/Activities: Residents/Customers % of Time Spent: 50% Support staff to deliver quality resident care, ensuring the use of best practices Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and teamwork to ensure the best possible approach to resident care Ensure a holistic, quality approach to resident care consistent with Shalom s Mission, Vision, Values and the Resident Bill of Rights Meet with residents and family to resolve concerns, problems, and complaints Internal Processes % of Time Spent: 60% Demonstrate effective management and operation of nursing services to ensure the efficient utilization of resources Ensure appropriate recruitment, utilization (scheduling), and supervision of staff, in consultation with the DRC Implement the agency risk management program related to resident care and staffing Implement the agency quality improvement program related to resident care and staffing Support the implementation and evaluation of core (mandatory) programs including skin and wound, falls, pain, restraints and continence. Support the medication administration program. Ensure timely and accurate completion of documentation for direct reports in accordance with legislation, regulation and internal requirements Organize/coordinate student placements for Nursing Services Ensure that adequate and appropriate nursing supplies are available Associate Director of Resident Care - Position Description Page 1
Financial % of Time Spent: 3% Accountable for adhering to the annual budget set for Nursing services Accountable for adhering to the capital budget set for Nursing services Employee Learning and Growth % of Time Spent: 30% Demonstrate a high commitment to continuous employee learning and growth Recruitment and retention of staff in accordance with current legislation, best practices, corporate policies and procedures and collective agreements Maintain appropriate orientation, utilization, education and supervision of the nursing services teams (eg annual mandatory staff training schedule). Performance management of direct reports (eg attendance, coaching, job descriptions, performance appraisals, progressive discipline) and oversee the process for indirect reports Provide support and guidance to direct reports in relation to staff matters as required Manage labour relations issues and negotiations as required, in consultation with the DRC Ensure that the DRC is made aware of staff disciplinary issues prior to the discipline being communicated/carried out (ie written warning, suspension, termination) Other % of Time Spent: 100% Ensure compliance of all Shalom s policies and procedures Ensure the health and safety of staff and residents Adhere to all health and safety procedures, including: o Wear proper safety equipment and PPE when necessary o Practice proper body mechanics in daily routines o Use all equipment in accordance with manufacturer s instructions o Utilize proper communication techniques when a service interruption will/does occur Comply with resident and staff safety through adhering to the infection control program; support and coordinate emergency and outbreak responses as required Participate in staff meetings, committees, and in-service education Perform additional duties as assigned Financial Responsibility: This role will maintain fiscal adherence to the approved budget for the department. The ADRC is not directly accountable for the Nursing budget, but their decisions around staffing, ordering of supplies etc have significant impacts.
