JOB DSCRPTN Job Title: Responsible to: Group Health & Safety Manager Vice Principal Corporate Services Responsible for: Health & Safety Officer 1. Job Purpose: To help to ensure The Grimsby nstitute Group complies with current Health & Safety and other associated legislation. To help develop and maintain safe working systems throughout the Grimsby nstitute Group. To develop, deliver or facilitate appropriate Health & Safety related staff training. To advise, guide and support management and staff in all matters relating to Health, Safety and welfare. To help promote a positive Health & Safety culture throughout The Grimsby nstitute Group. 2. Key Responsibilities 2.1 To maintain and administer an appropriate accident reporting and recording procedure and system. 2.2 To maintain and administer an appropriate departmental/curriculum Health & Safety inspection system. 2.3 To produce regular reports for senior management, Governors and the Health & Safety committee. 2.4 To attend any meetings and working groups deemed necessary, providing appropriate Health & Safety advice, guidance and support as required. 2.5 To ensure management and staff are kept up to date with current Health & Safety guidance and legislation to help ensure compliance. 2.6 To assist, advise, guide and support management and staff in accident prevention strategies. 3. Specific Duties 3.1 Monitor through regular Health & Safety inspections, tours and sampling all Group operations, making appropriate recommendations and assisting in completing action plans. 3.2 Advise, guide and support management, staff and Health and Safety committee on all matters relating to Health, safety and Welfare.
3.3 Act as a focal point for the day-to-day reference on Health, Safety and welfare. 3.4 Preparation of papers and associated data for the Health and Safety committee and serving on it. 3.5 Reviewing and updating the Group Health and Safety policy and all other related policies, guidelines and procedures. 3.6 Preparing, maintaining and updating as required any Health and Safety related instructions, notices and statements. 3.7 Maintain and administer the Group accident reporting and recording arrangements. 3.8 Arrange Health and Safety training requirements liaise with staff development. 3.9 Develop, deliver or facilitate Health and Safety related training. 3.10 Liaise with external contractors, issue appropriate permits to work and maintain associated records. 3.11 Manage all Health and Safety related records, in line with appropriate systems, policies and procedures. 3.12 Attend any internal or external meetings, seminars or any other events necessary to the maintenance of the Group Health and Safety systems and procedures. 3.13 Line manage the Group Health and Safety team, which includes the Health and Safety Officer and any other persons instructed to do so by the line manager (Vice Principal Corporate Services). 3.14 Perform any other duties which reasonably correspond to the general character of the job and are commensurate with its levels of responsibilities. 4. Budget Responsibility The post holder is required to ensure the Group Health and Safety team achieves its budget on a monthly/ annual basis in conjunction with Group s accounting systems and financial regulations. 5. Continuing Professional Development 5.1 The post holder will proactively take part in the nstitute Appraisal process. 5.2 The post holder will be expected to attend training and continuous professional development events and be responsible for their own professional updating. Group Health & Safety Manager mployee Specification Qualifications & Training Current NBOSH qualification (minimum General Certificate) or equivalent. Fire Risk Assessment Qualification (e.g. NBOSH/SH) or equivalent. Formal teaching/training qualification (e.g. Train the Trainer) or equivalent. Current full First Aid at Work Certificate. D How? Knowledge of current legislation relating to work placement/experience.
