UNIO DE POLÍGONS INDUSTRIALS DE CATALUNYA - ORIGIN The Unió de Polígons Industrials de Catalunya (UPIC) is a nonprofit organization created by organizations representing industrial areas of Catalonia in order to ensure that all companies operating in Catalonia develop its industrial activity in the best and most effective way possible The UPIC was promoted in 2005 by the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce and the General Council of the Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Navigation of Catalonia (CGCC) Our experience from 2005 and the networking with the main partners in industrial parks subjects, allows the UPIC to be a preferential partner for foreign to businesses interested in setting up or expanding their operations in Catalonia

UNIO DE POLÍGONS INDUSTRIALS DE CATALUNYA - CHARACTERISTICS The UPIC includes over 40 associations all around Catalonia, which represent more than 80 industrials parks and over 10,000 companies The UPIC has representation throughout all the territory of Catalonia The UPIC maintains contacts with other entities of the same nature in both regional and national level The UPIC is a preferential speaker of the governments, both municipal and supra-municipal as well as of some Catalan Government departments (Generalitat of Catalonia) in matters related to industrial parks The UPIC has a broad portfolio of information about industrial situation in Catalonia

In Catalonia there are about 1900 industrial areas with a surface over 0.5 hectares There are more than 600 industrial parks that meet all the requirements needed for the implementation of new industrial business There are industrial parks spread all around Catalonia, but the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona is the main industrial concentration in Spain with more than 15000 hectares of industrial ground

ATTRACTION OF FOREIGN COMPANIES SERVICE INTRODUCTION Catalonia accounts for 16% of the population, 20% of GDP and 30% of exports of Spain Catalonia has an excellent connectivity to Europe and to the rest of the world because of the existence of port airport, road and rail Catalonia is in a top position in Europe and worldwide in research (R & D), technology and business areas due to the existence of a broad network of centers of knowlegde In 2010, the foreign investment in Catalonia was over 4500 million. Itrepresents around 20% of foreign investment in Spain Actually, more than 3400 foreign companies are settled in Catalonia

ATTRACTION OF FOREIGN COMPANIES SERVICE INTRODUCTION The UPIC is the only Catalan entity which objective is the improvement of the industrial parks situation The UPIC counts among its members, all the Catalonian Chambers of Commerce, one of whose main objective is the promotion and internationalization of economic activity The activities to promote economical development attraction of new companies include the These activities are carried out by means of consultation processes and taking advantage of synergies between the different agents The UPIC, as a entity associated with the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, has a worldwide presence based on the Chambers of Commerce network (ICC (worldwide), AICO (Latin America), ASCAME (Mediterranean Area))

ATTRACTION OF FOREIGN COMPANIES SERVICE OBJECTIVES The objectives of this service are: Promoting the installation in Catalonia of new investments, reinvestments and upgrades Helping the development of new business activities in Catalonia and become a facilitator for investments with high added value Encouraging business given the competitive environment in each area and regional development strategies Supporting the consolidation of the Catalan business through strategic investment agreements with foreign companies
