BURNABY HOSPITAL Imagine having no place to turn when your child s fever reaches 105 degrees in the middle of the night; when your elderly parent takes a bad fall; or when you or someone you care about is in a serious accident and needs immediate medical attention. What would you do if there was no hospital close by? For more than 60 years, Burnaby Hospital has been there for its community members when it matters most. Serving approximately half a million people, Burnaby s 319-bed hospital is the largest of Fraser Health s community hospitals, receiving more than 200,000 patient visits annually. Plus, our emergency department is one of the busiest in the province with a staggering 80,000 patient visits every year. As these numbers continue to grow, they tell an important story: community hospitals matter. Access to qualified medical care that s close to home matters. And, your support matters to the thousands of people across Burnaby and East Vancouver who trust their hospital. FAST FACTS Clinicians will do approximately 2,800 endoscopic procedures this year (helped along by the new donor-funded endoscopic suite). In the first three months of 2016 alone, our physicians performed 8,291 surgical procedures - 1,620 of those surgeries were emergency cases. There were 12,000 patient visits recorded by our Cancer Centre. At any given time, 10 percent of patients staying in Burnaby Hospital are receiving care for a serious and persistent mental health or substance use issue.
