Our AeroCampers at Edgewood on a great summer day. Outdoor classrooms are always great fun and have an educational value like no other. Summer Camp at Edgewood In conjunction with local business and schools, the EWF offered a summer camp teaching Long Island teens about science, engineering, aeronautics, and safety. This summer the Edgewood Flyers hosted an AeroCampers program at Edgewood. EWF Member Hal Staniloff, who is also GA pilot of 17 years and an FAA Advanced Ground Instructor, arranged for the local chapter of AeroCampers to learn about radio control models, and the flying skills that are in common with full scale flight. Theory of flight and safety were the major topics expressed to the kids during the day. Each child was given the opportunity to fly a model in order to experience the thrill and excitement that the radio control hobby has to offer. Everybody had a fantastic time! A special thanks to all who helped make this day a success! EWF member Hal was very instrumental in providing the guidance and direction to our young enthusiastic generation. All set for class at Edgewood!! Campers enjoying a great summer day.

EWF take care of the Entrance to the Preserve. EWF take care of the trail entrances to Preserve. Cutting the Invasives The EWF have been cleaning and maintaining areas of the Edgewood Preserve as per our AANRA. The continued growth of favorable grasses is being noticed in many new areas within the test perimeter. Some areas of Mugwart have made it harder for desired grasses to grow. However, continued cutting will eventually restore the areas infested by this invasive grass. We have developed a plan for the next few years to continue providing the necessary foundations for the NYSDEC s framework in accordance with our AANRA. EWF take care of Overflow Lot to Preserve. EWF take care of Pavilion to Preserve. EWF are helping maintain the area for many other users as well. EWF restoring the grasslands of Preserve. EWF take care of road at Preserve.

EWF president Chuck Davis being honored by AMA VP and Town of Riverhead Supervisor Sean Walter. All EWF members participating in Wounded Warrior Event. Wounded Warrior Project The EWF took on a lead role in planning all phases of this event. John Sabini spokesperson for the EWF worked with town officials, senators, and law enforcement to host a Wounded Warriors Benefit Fly-In on National Model Aviation Day. EWF president Chuck Davis directed all aspects of the event and fund raising. Chuck has been instrumental in promoting aviation all his life and has led the EWF over the last few years as one of the premiere community based organizations on Long Island. The EWF thank Chuck Davis for his leadership and community presence. All proceeds went to Wounded Warriors. Chuck led this event to be the second most successful fund raiser in the nation for the Wounded Warriors Benefit on National Model Aviation Day. Town Supervisor Sean Walter, Councilmen Dunleavy and Councilwomen Giglio. The EWF thank all officials and communities for supporting such an event and for bringing it to our Long Island communities. The event not only fosters the dreams of flight, but also supports a great charity. The EWF thank the Long Island Chapter, New York District II, and the Academy of Model Aeronautics. A special thanks to the Town of Riverhead and NYSDEC for their efforts in bringing this event to Calverton Long Island. For videos please visit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=cakkpkybgk0 www.youtube.com/watch?v=7jli7mi0_7a Hobby King crew came out in great support for the Wounded Warriors

Many of our Veterans came to help. The EWF also provided flight training to anyone. John Sabini and Chuck Davis helping elected officials and their families. EWF played a lead role in the event. Town of Babylon salutes all Volunteers. The EWF were amongst many that were thanked for their efforts. Edgewood Flyers get recognized In our continued efforts within the communities of Long Island, the EWF are constantly striving to be the best. The EWF are very well known within our townships and elected officials. Our hard work has not gone unnoticed. The EWF were invited by Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Councilwomen Gorden, and Florence Findley to a town banquet. We were one of the few organizations mentioned and honored for the work we have accomplished over the many years at Edgewood. What is amazing is how much Chuck Davis has accomplished over the years for us. The task force meetings, the town meetings, the community development meetings the NYSDEC meetings. When we were at the banquet everyone knew exactly who the EWF were!! All the town officials, NYS Assemblymen Ramos, NYS Assemblymen Raia, NYS Assemblymen Sweeny, all enthusiastically shook our hands and talked very highly of the EWF. Senators, Assemblymen and town officials recognize the EWF contributions to the Edgewood Preserve. We thank President Chuck Davis for helping achieve this over the years.

Larry not only lost the barn but his goats too in the tragedy. Caring about our Community Larry and Ann Cihanek environmentally friendly business Green-Goats took a turn for the worst when he lost his barn. The NYSDEC has worked with Larry to help the EWF remove invasive grasses at the Edgewood Preserve using goats. Larry not only lost his barn but also his 100 goats! This was devastating news. The EWF have donated to his rebuild fund and managed to raise almost $800.00. Larry s message to the EWF is as follows: Ann and I would like to thank you for your generous donation to our Re-build or Barn go fund me page. Because of generous people like you we are coming back and rebuilding, first our herd of goats and later this summer, our barn. We look forward to our new goats working for the DEC again this year. For further info please visit www.green-goats.com. Larry lost everything when his barn burned to the ground. Larry is rebuilding thanks to donations from many like the EWF.

Fall Cleanup. Many families of the EWF come out every fall to clean the surrounding area of the Preserve. The week prior we cleaned trails and inside the Preserve. The second week we cleaned the perimeter and surrounding areas. We even cleaned across the street for the local residence. Even though we clean three times a year we keep finding more. The EWF help the community with yearly cleanups. A proud EWF member. President Chuck Davis thanks the Volunteers.

A Heart felt Remembrance. Leroy Seidenspinner Roy from Deer Park, NY was one of our founding members. He had a passion for aviation not only flying model airplanes but, also flew full scale out of Bayport Aerodrome. He always helped EWF in cleanups and run events. Roy would always be seen at the field early mornings enjoy flying with his friends. Roy was also a past president and board member of the EWF. He was also a flight instructor and has taught many of us to fly. He always offered good advice and insight to all of us. He will be dearly missed. Charlie Giessen Charlie from Deer Park, NY was new to EWF. However, Charlie left us with great memories that none of the EWF members will forget. Charlie a US Marine Veteran loved coming out to spend time with his friends at Edgewood. Charlie designed manufactured models in the 30 s. His age did not stop him from coming out and helping the EWF in cleanups and events. Charlie will be missed by all of us.
