Emphasis is placed on normal growth and development of children from infancy through adolescence. Clinical experience includes the study of the normal patterns of growth and development observed on children in nursery schools. This is in addition to the care of the sick child through clinical practice in Medical and Surgical Pediatric wards. Critical Care Nursing The course focuses on the integration of knowledge and skills to provide safe, competent basic nursing care to critically ill patient. Emphasis on nursing skill and strategies directed towards the care of acutely and critically ill patient with the focus on the use of biomedical technology, planning care of patient with complex and specialized care needs. Nursing Management and Leadership This course describes the concepts and principles relevant to managerial functions: planning, organizing, staffing, directing and controlling and their application in different nursing situations at the various health care settings. Also, it focuses on the key issues in nursing leadership, concepts, theories and their application into practice. This course will expose the student to the principles of quality management (QM), process of total quality management (TQM) as well, continuous quality improvement (CQI) and risk management including approaches in identifying and managing health care problems. Fundamental of Nursing Theoretical and practical components of this course are designed to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate competency in performing basic nursing skills for individuals with common health alterations. The clinical labs will include simulations and interactions with patients in hospital or nursing home settings. The nursing process will serve as the framework for this foundational course. Geriatric Nursing This course focuses on the normal and abnormal changes in elderly, the major causes of mortality and morbidity for the elderly and the roles of a nurse in promoting healthy aging.
