This is in addition to the different therapeutic modalities used for both medical and surgical patients. However, the student is expected to integrate knowledge derived from other courses taken previously or simultaneously. The course also focuses on the application of nursing process and utilization of the concept of self-care in providing comprehensive nursing management for medical and surgical patients with special consideration to the maintenance of patients safety throughout care and promotion of home care through discharge plan. 2 Medical Surgical 2 (1610-312) The course provides the student with further in-depth knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for high quality nursing management for Medical-Surgical patients in specialized medical and surgical wards, as well as emergency room, operating room and recovery room and day surgery. This is in addition to the different therapeutic modalities used for both medical and surgical patients. However, the student is encouraged to integrate knowledge derived from other courses taken previously or simultaneously. The course also focuses on the application of nursing process and utilization of self-care concepts in providing comprehensive nursing management for medical and surgical patients with special consideration to the maintenance of patients safety throughout care and promotion of home care through discharge plan. 3 Pediatric Nursing (1610-431) The course provides theory and practice essential for the nursing management of children in both health and sickness. Emphasis is placed on normal growth and development of children from infancy through adolescence. Health promotions, prevention of illness are greatly emphasized.
Clinical experience includes observation of children in nursery school. It involves also nursing care of the sick children in the Medical and Surgical Pediatric wards. 4 Maternal And Child Nursing (1610-211) The course provides the learners the fundamental concepts about normal pregnancy, labor and delivery, post-partum period and delivery of care to newborn. This course further provides ideas related to family planning and responsible parenthood knowledge, understanding and proficiency (KUB) in the provision of examination, suturing and intravenous therapy. 5 Fundamentals Of Nursing I (1610-241) This course is designed to provide the student with the knowledge, skills and attitude that help to build a solid foundation for professional nursing practice. Moreover, it introduces the student to the knowledge and clinical skills necessary for the care of the client in times of illness and wellness.
