CGOC Speaker Series Author: First Lieutenant James Maslyn The CGOC Speaker Series, a joint initiative between the AFA and the Hanscom AFB CGOC, aims to inspire, develop, and mentor the next generation of Air Force leaders by exposing junior Officers to a variety of different lessons, opinions, and advice from enlisted, officer and civilian leaders throughout the Air Force, Department of Defense, and beyond. Speakers will brief CGOs on base at the Minuteman Commons, beginning, April 9th at 11:30 A.M with Brigadier General (Ret) Born, currently a professor at Harvard and former professor and Dean of Faculty at the USAFA, and continuing over the following months with other distinguished guests. The speaker series will expose the CGOs to different missions, viewpoints, and opportunities present in today's Air Force. Hanscom CGOs hope to capitalize on the local area's world-renowned universities and robust and diverse private sector, containing companies often in the cutting edge of their field, to draw upon valuable advice, broaden their horizons, and develop into more mature, globally focused and operationally capable leaders for the United States Air Force. Lt James Maslyn, the CGOC's Lead of Professional development has been spearheading the initiative from the CGOC, working closely with fellow CGOC and AFA member Capt William Sutcliffe and CGOC President Lt Matthew Cignoli. Paul Zauner from the Paul Revere Chapter of the AFA has provided much needed financial, logistical, and moral support in the speaker series and is cosponsoring the events. Dr. Dana H. Born, Lecturer in Public Policy, is a retired U.S. Air Force Brigadier General with 30 years of military service. Prior to coming to Harvard, she served two terms as the President appointed Dean of Faculty for the U.S. Air Force Academy. Memorial Essay Contest in the Works! We are looking for someone to lead the charge of a Memorial Essay Contest with some serious prize money to back it up! If you are interested, contact Paul Zauner at afapaulrevere@gmail.com. The following is from the latest AFA Newsline. It might be a good opportunity for the chapter. The January 2015 issue of Wingman Magazine is at the printer and will be arriving in your mailboxes early next month. Many thanks to all of you who supported the issue and contributed content. Magazine staff are already planning for the next issue. If you would like to write a feature article for the May 2015 issue, please contact Michael Sirak at wingman@afa.org to discuss the details. Wanted are volunteers who enjoy writing and are open to a constructive back-and-forth with magazine staff to arrive at a quality, refined product. Feel free to propose your own topic, or Wingman Magazine staff would be glad to suggest one for you, if you don't have one. The deadline for submitting a feature article is Friday, Jan. 30. Wingman Magazine feature pieces range in size from 800 to 1,800 words; ideally, several nice, high-quality action photos should accompany the text.
