Minnesota West Community and Technical College Worthington Scholarship List FALL 2018 Agriculture Scholarship $500 Worthington Agriculture 2.5 New 12 Fall This renewable scholarship, which is renewable for a second year, is awarded to one incoming student majoring in Agriculture who has demonstrated leadership skills throughout his/her high school career. It is renewable for a second year. Alpha Nu Scholarship $250 Worthington Any 2.5 Current 12 Fall This scholarship, which is renewable for a second year, is awarded to one student who is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa national honor society and demonstrates leadership skills at the college. About the Donor: Alpha Nu is the local chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, a national honor fraternity for liberal arts college students. The group sponsors various service activities throughout the year. Number of Scholarships: 2 About the Donor: This scholarship is made possible by an anonymous donor who was able to secure scholarship funding to attend Minnesota West and make a career as an educator, and whose children and grandchildren also attended Minnesota West. Dorothy Fenstermacher Nursing Scholarship $1,000 Worthington Nursing 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to three students of diversity who are majoring in nursing, have a financial need, and have demonstrated academic and leadership skills. Number of Scholarships: 3 About the Donor: This scholarship is funded by the estate of Dorothy Fenstemacher. Born in Okabena, MN, Dorothy moved to Philadelphia, PA, where she served as a nurse. She returned to Worthington, MN in 1986, where she was a member of the First United Methodist Church, took piano, harp, and Spanish lessons, and enjoyed playing bridge until her death in 2011.

Edward Kellen Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Worthington Any 3.0 New 12 Fall This scholarship, which is renewable for a second year, is awarded to one graduate of Worthington High School who will attend the Worthington and who intends to go on to complete a bachelor s degree program at an accredited four year college. Student must have achieved a of 3.0 to qualify. About the Donor: Edward Kellen served the Worthington from 1949-1978 as a business instructor and Registrar. He remained highly active in the Worthington community even after his retirement. All four of his daughters also attended Worthington Junior College, and this scholarship was established by his family in his memory. Elizabeth Trunk Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Worthington Any 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to up students who have demonstrated academic and leadership skills and have a financial need. Number of Scholarships: 5 About the Donor: Elizabeth "Beth" Trunk was a longtime resident of Worthington, MN. Beth dedicated her life to teaching for 51 years and for three generations of students the word teacher was given special meaning by Elizabeth Trunk. Beth was a member of St. Mary s Catholic Church, the Minnesota Education Association and the National Education Association. She was nominated as Woman of the Year by the Business Professional Women. She was also a charter member of Delta Kappa Gamma PSI chapter. She enjoyed spending time with family and chatting with friends. Beth was a mentor to all. ESL Scholarship $250 Worthington Any 2.5 New 12 Fall This renewable scholarship is awarded to a student who has English as his/her second language.

Humanities Scholarship $250 Worthington Humanities 2.5 New 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to a student majoring in philosophy, music, art, and/or literature/english who has demonstrated academic and leadership skills. John W. Mooty, Genevieve B. Mooty, John W. Mooty, and Melvin R. Mooty Academic Scholarship $3,300 Worthington Any 3.0 New 12 Fall This scholarship, which is renewable for a second year, is awarded to three incoming freshman who show potential for success and demonstrate financial need after all other financial aid awards and scholarships are given. Scholarship applicants must have a minimum high school of 3.0 Number of Scholarships: 3 About the Donor: The Mooty family have been huge supporters of Minnesota West Community and Technical College. Genevieve Mooty was very active in the Worthington Community. Both she and her two sons attended Worthington Junior College, and both John W. Mooty and Melvin R. Mooty completed their education at the University of Minnesota Law School and were partners in the firm of Gray, Plant, Mooty, Mooty, and Bennett. This scholarship is funded by the John W. Mooty Trust. Law Enforcement Scholarship $250 Worthington Law Enforcement 2.5 New 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to one student majoring in Law Enforcement who has demonstrated leadership skills and has a demonstrated financial need. Number of Scholarships: 2 Minnesota West Worthington Foundation Scholarship $500 Worthington Any 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship, which is renewable for a second year, is awarded to six academically deserving students on the Worthington. Number of Scholarships: Up to 6

Music/Theater Scholarship $250 Worthington Any 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to two Worthington students who are participating in music and have demonstrated academic and leadership skills. Number of Scholarships: 2 Nick and Myrtle Hand Memorial Scholarship $250 Worthington Any None Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to one Worthington student who may not have a 4.0 but demonstrates potential for success, and has a financial need. About the Donors: Nick and Myrtle Hand were longtime residents of Worthington and believed in the importance and value of education. Norman Gallagher Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Worthington Agriculture or related program 2.5 New 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to a student on the Worthington who demonstrates qualities of hard work, dedication, and a background in civic engagement and community involvement. About the Donor: Norman Gallagher was a Worthington Foundation Board Member and supporter of Minnesota West in Worthington, MN. This scholarship is given in his memory by family and friends. Nursing Scholarship $250 Worthington Nursing 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to two students majoring in nursing who have demonstrated academic and leadership skills. Number of Scholarships: 2

Physics, Math, and/or Engineering Scholarship $250 Worthington Physics, Math, and/or Engineering 2.5 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to one student majoring in physics, math, and/or engineering and who has demonstrated academic and leadership skills. Ray Crippen Memorial Scholarship $1,000 Worthington None 2.5 New 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to a student on the Worthington who has demonstrated a commitment to and involvement in their community. About the Donor: Ray Crippen was a tireless community advocate and supporter of Minnesota West in Worthington, MN. This scholarship is given in his memory by family and friends. Sarah Amundson Memorial Scholarship $500 Worthington None 2.0 New 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to one graduate of Worthington High School who is non-caucasian. About the Donor: This scholarship is given in memory of Sarah Amundson by family and friends. Sarah was a member of Worthington High School Class of 2003. Steve Johnson Memorial Scholarship $500 Worthington None 2.0 Either 12 Fall This scholarship is awarded to an incoming or returning female student on the Worthington who participated in high school basketball. The recipient will demonstrate academic competence, integrity and community involvement. Three letters of reference are required (one from a teacher/coach, one from an employer/mentor, and one from a peer/teammate). About the Donor: This scholarship is given in memory of Steve Johnson by family and friends. Steve was an avid supporter of the Minnesota West Lady Jays basketball program.
