INFORMATION ON THE AHEPA CHAPTER #3 SCHOLARSHIP Why Was the AHEPA CHAPTER #3 Scholarship Established? It was established to promote, encourage and advance education of members and family members of the AHEPA organization by granting to them scholarship assistance. How was the Scholarship Established? The Scholarship was established through various fund raising events that the local Birmingham Chapter #3 organization conducts throughout the year Who Can Apply? Only members and/or the children of members of the AHEPA or DAUGHTERS OF PENELOPE Organizations are eligible to apply. In order to apply and be eligible for a scholarship, an applicant must be: 1. A student in a current or a former graduating class of a high school who is planning to attend a University during the current academic year. Who Will Select Recipients for Scholarship Assistance? Selection of recipients will be made by a Scholarship Selection Committee. Committee members will include members of the AHEPA Chapter #3 Organization without children or grandchildren applying for scholarship assistance. Will the Scholarship Grant Go Directly to the Student? No. The Scholarship award will be paid directly to the University at the beginning of each semester. In the event the student does not enroll at the University, the award will be returned to the AHEPA Chapter #3 Organization. In the event the student does not remain in good standing at the University, or withdraws from the University, the balance of the award will be returned to the AHEPA Chapter #3 Organization. How Much Money Will Be Given? The amount of the scholarship award will be determined by the Scholarship Selection Committee. Awards will only be granted from the earnings raised through various fund raising events that the local Birmingham Chapter #3 organization conducts throughout the year. Amount of money to be granted will be determined by the following criteria: 1. Academic achievement and extracurricular activities; 2. Church involvement 3. Community involvement. Can one Reapply for a Scholarship? Yes. Renewal of a scholarship is not automatic. Scholarships do not carry over automatically. A recipient from a previous year is eligible to reapply for another year.
Other Documentation and Information Needed Enclose a type- written biographical essay (not to exceed 500 words) which highlights your involvement with the Church, academic achievements and honors, extracurricular activities, accomplishments, volunteer activities, employment and future goals. Provide evidence that you have been accepted at an accredited University with transcripts or letter of acceptance. Provide official transcripts from your high school and/or college.
