A. J. MOORE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION GRANTED 501(c)3 NON-PROFIT STATUS The A. J. Moore High School Alumni Association is proud to announce that we are now officially a nonprofit corporation with tax exempt status under section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue code. Though we are now a Corporation, the name of the organization continues to be A. J. Moore High Alumni Association (AJMHSAA). AJMHSAA have the following specific purposes for which it has been organized: To engage and connect with alumni in the promotion and coordination of scholarship programs for graduating youth Encouraging alumni to contribute their time, talent, and financial support to promote education among disadvantaged youth Communicating needs, news, and celebrating the innovative accomplishments of A. J. Moore High School alumni This Corporation promotes civic engagement by cultivating a mutually beneficial relationship between the alumni and community by the above specific needs. AJMHSAA is now eligible to apply for government and foundation grants which will further broaden access to resources and enhance our ability to fulfill our purpose and invest in our legacy. Achieving nonprofit status is a major step for A. J. Moore High School Alumni Association as it opens doors for us to host fundraising events on a regular basis thereby shaping a new culture of involvement for alumni members. We are requesting that all alumni commit to increasing participation and owning our legacy by supporting as many events as possible which will raise our visibility and our determination to remain faithful and true-hearted to A. J. Moore High School and the rich traditions which helped to shape us. Donations to the A. J. Moore High School Alumni Association can be sent to: Financial Secretary A. J. Moore Alumni Association P. O. 1384 Waco, TX 76703 Bettie V. Beard AJMHSAA Co-Chair A. J. MOORE HIGH ALUMNI ASSOCIATION COLLABORATING WITH CREATIVE WACO ON GALA EVENT A. J. Moore High Alumni Association (AJMSHAA) received several suggestions for its first fundraiser and the suggestions were discussed and researched.

Israel Anderson suggested that we plan a fundraiser around a concert by 1964 classmate Joan Holbert Hubert. Since Israel had already made preliminary inquiries and received a go-ahead from Mrs. Hubert, it was decided that we would look into this possibility. Bettie Beard suggested that we seek a collaboration with Creative Waco since this past September Waco -- having received the highest score out of twelve applicants -- was designated as a Cultural Arts District by the State of Texas. It was agreed that Bettie Beard would set up a meeting for the group who were designated as the Benefits Concert Committee. The meeting was held in October at the Baylor Club with President Wayman Dever, Vice-President Bettie Beard, Treasurer Allen Kuykendall, Israel Anderson, Alex Wheeler (AJMHSAA Benefits Concert Committee) and Fiona Bond, Coordinator Waco Arts Alliance. The meeting was very productive and Waco Arts Alliance Coordinator Fiona Bond shared a copy of the inquiry she made to Waco Hippodrome on behalf of A. J. Moore High School Alumni Association which reads in part: I wanted to connect with you following a conversation I had today with leaders of the AJ Moore Alumni Association. They are wanting to organize an evening event featuring well-known Texas soprano, Joan Holbert Hubert, a top notch gospel group and hopefully the Baylor Jazz ensemble and Bob Darden - whose Black Gospel Music Restoration Project is now in the Smithsonian s new Museum of African American History. Their goals at this early stage are: 1/ To showcase a famous singer from Waco who has made it big. 2/ To bring AJ Moore Alumni back to Waco for this event 3/ To connect cultural organizations across our community 4/ To create an event with universal appeal across Waco s music loving community. I think this event would be a wonderful opportunity to create a unique cultural experience and develop new audiences at the Hippodrome. The event is also intended to be a fund raiser for future cultural events, too, so we would be looking to charge a modest amount for tickets. Recent response from the Amy Gillham, Hippodrome: Thank you for thinking of us for the AJ Moore Alumni Gala. I student taught there while I was at Baylor and hold a special place for the school! April 23, 29, 30, or May 19, 21 would all be dates to look at. Let me know if y'all would like to meet with Casey and I sometime soon to discuss event details... We are so very excited about this and all of the possibilities this collaboration can have for AJMHSAA. The Downtown Cultural Arts District is a very important part of Waco and A. J. Moore High School always had a rich tradition of educating and producing excellent talented achievers. This should be a great match! Our very own talented Joan Holbert Hubert is just one of the talented many who received training from some of the best music teachers in the state. Quoting Israel Anderson Joan Holbert Hubert is a living testament to the level of excellence that A. J. Moore High School was imbued. Joan s performances are an example of the superior standard which was encouraged and nurtured by our very talented music teachers. Yes, we Moore High Alumni are privileged to be a part of many rich traditions, and now we have an opportunity to share a part of our legacy with many others in the Waco community and beyond. Though we are still in the planning phase, we hope to soon be able to announce that you can add this event to your calendars (most likely one of the May dates). We are looking forward to the more dynamic alumni engagement where our new non-profit corporation provides us with more opportunities to shape our own legacy. Bettie V. Beard

AJMHSAA Co-Chair A. J. MOORE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Greetings from the Finance & Budget Committee! As we prepare for our July 6 -- 9 All School Reunion, we want to ensure that as many alumni as possible have information regarding the new guidelines which our reunion committees will be operating under. Guidelines & Rules 1. All reunion committees must adhere to the guidelines and established budget set forth by the Budget Committee. 2. Ten (10) days prior to the reunion (Monday, June 26, 2017), no personal checks will be accepted CASH payments only. 3. Each committee chairperson is responsible for their committee s expenses not to exceed their budget. No reimbursements will be provided for any expenditures that are not pre-approved and budgeted. 4. No reimbursement requests will be transacted during the reunion. Each Committee Chairperson must refund to the Treasurer any monies that did not come up to their allocated budget (i.e. If you received $500.00 and only spent $450.00, then the $50.00 in unspent funds must be returned to the Treasurer). 5. Each Committee Chairperson must submit a Voucher before a check is issued by the Treasurer. One check will be issued to the Committee Chairperson ONLY and not to multiple subcommittee members. Committee Chairperson must maintain all receipts for purchases and submit to the Treasure to support the voucher. 6. The Budget Committee will prepare a budget comparison report compiled from the Treasurer s prior and actual year-to-date budget figures from the previous reunion. This report will be made available to the local Alumni Association Committee. This is amendment of the report submitted on October 11, 2016 by the Finance and Budget Committee: Rev. Allen Kuykendall, Chairman Norman Manning, Financial Secretary Helen Bailey, Member Myretha Gadlin, Member Earline Keys, Member A. J. MOORE HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION All School Reunion Update Celebrating the Golden Anniversaries Of

Season s Greetings Fellow Alumni! Class of 1966 and Class of 1967 We pray that you are all doing well! As the year comes to a close, we can honestly say that 2016 has been a busy and productive year for A. J. Moore High School Alumni Association (AJMHSAA). A New Chapter We are excited in anticipation of what the future holds for us in our new status as a 501c3 non-profit corporation. This is something that many of us have wanted for a long time and our alumni association has worked diligently over the past couple of years to bring this goal to fruition with the help of several key individuals including alumnus Dr. Cheyenne Eichelberger who served as non-profit consultant. Our charitable status gives us the opportunity to do a number of things which many of us have talked about over the years -- things such as acquire a facility, increase our opportunities to raise money, increase the amount of assistance provided through scholarships and the number of scholarships, and so much more. We are asking that each and every one of our alumni unite in helping us successfully navigate now and throughout the coming years as a charitable organization. Increases There has been a discussion about the need to increase registration fees for the AJMHSAA All School Reunion for several years. Well, at the September 9, 2016 alumni association meeting, where much concern was expressed about the decreasing number of participants and the impact that these numbers had on the budget, members agreed to increase the registration fee to $125.00. In addition, the Sunday picnic fees were increased to $20.00. Reunion/ Registration information and forms for the All School Reunion can be found on the http://www.ajmoorealumni.com website. Another increase which was approved by the alumni association was the price of ads for the souvenir book. The prices are as listed below: Whole page. $ 125.00 Half page. $ 75.00 Quarter page $ 45.00 Eighth page.. $ 35.00 Patron... $ 10.00 Gwendolyn Bendy is the Committee Chairperson and she will be sharing additional information about the souvenir books in the near future. Alumni Awards and Nomination Committee This is a new proposed committee submitted by Bettie V. Beard. The purpose of the Alumni Awards and Nomination Committee will be 1) to impartially select alumni for several categories of awards, 2) nominate or receive nominations for the purpose of choosing award recipients for the A. J. Moore Alumni Association, 3) for choosing nominees to the Texas Sports Hall of Fame, and 4) for choosing nominees for the Waco Independent School District s Distinguished Alumni Awards. The Committee will present its report for approval to the A. J. Moore Alumni Association Executive Committee before submitting nominees. Costs associated with A. J. Moore High Alumni Association awards and nominations might range from nominal (cost of postage and a few plaques less than $500.00 per award year) to a more expensive $5.000 -- $7,000.00 (breakfast or dinner event/ceremony which could be offset by using event as fundraiser) or even higher depending on the ambition of our Association. Positive outcomes of such a committee could contribute greatly to raising the profile of AJMHSAA and ensuring that our history and legacy is firmly entrenched in the Waco community and beyond.
