Dr. Fineout-Overholt is the Mary Coulter Dowdy Distinguished Nursing Professor in the College of Nursing & Health Sciences at the University of Texas at Tyler. She is privileged to shape future leaders of nursing through the PhD and DNP programs at UT Tyler as well as working with emerging leaders across the globe. Furthermore, she continues to advance her work with faculty and students, nationally and internationally, to revise curriculum to meet the mandate for inclusion of EBP in health professions' education as well as with community partners to implement sustainable evidence-based decision making. As part of that passion, Dr. Fineout-Overholt led a team of EBP experts in writing the widely acclaimed EBP Step-by-Step Series in the American Journal of Nursing, which is is one of the most widely sought after series in AJN history. Dr. EFO, as she has come to be known, has been instrumental in the ongoing development of the Melnyk & Fineout- Overholt's Advancing Research & Clinical Practice through Close Collaboration (ARCC) Model that guides implementation of EBP in the service sector, as well as the Fineout-Overholt & Melnyk's Advancing Research & Clinical Practice through Close Collaboration in Education (ARCC-E) model that guides integration of EBP into academic curricula. Dr. EFO is coauthor with Dr. Bernadette Melnyk of the bestselling book, Evidence-Based Practice in Nursing & Healthcare: A Guide to Best Practice, now in its 3rd edition and 2015 AJN Book of the Year, as well as Implementing Evidence-Based Practice for Nurses: Real-Life Success Stories, published by Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI), which offers real world stories about how, when, where, who and why EBP is so important to healthcare. The latest book Dr. EFO co-authored is Implementing the Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) Competencies in Healthcare: A Practical Guide for Improving Quality, Safety, and Outcomes. Throughout her career, Dr. EFO has intentionally focused on a grassroots approach to facilitating clinicians, faculty, and others to improve their craft through education about and implementation of evidence-based decision making, which is why she became a Gallup Certified Strengths Coach.
