Call to Artists -MURAL CoWorking Space at the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, 5 Patti Page Way Background The Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce works with those starting and expanding their businesses in a variety of ways. In addition to an Entrepreneur in Residence and weekends devoted to creating business ideas, the Chamber has, within its administrative offices off Shootflying Hill Road in Centerville (5 Patti Page Way), created free Coworking space. The goal is to encourage entrepreneurs and sole proprietors to leave their kitchens and garages and come to a place where they will be surrounded by people committed to and experienced in helping individuals and businesses succeed. Chamber staff manage programs that expand the markets of its nearly 1400 members, over 90% of which are small businesses. It s economic development initiatives include expanding markets for over 160 artists and creative institutions through highly visited websites, mobile apps, and individual assistance. The Chamber also works directly with individual entrepreneurs beyond the membership base. Our partner in the building, Coastal Community Capital, Inc., has lent over $14 million to local businesses, directly creating/retaining over 1300 jobs. Staff provide one-on-one technical assistance to some 750 underserved businesses and entrepreneurs annually. Both organizations strive to be stable influences in the lives of our small business and entrepreneur community. The Cape Cod Chamber has been working to create a modern, collaborative workspace that fosters entrepreneurial growth and innovation through collisions that occur between community entrepreneurs as they use the space. The Coworking space promotes collaboration and use of a shared resource between myriad constituencies: staff in the building, planned and unplanned interactions of those individuals and the broader community that use the space, including non-profit groups, MeetUp groups, individuals working on business ideas and even visitors that need a place to work. The Coworking space provides some order, along with high speed internet access, and great coffee. We believe that to best promote creativity and innovation the space should lend some inspiration to the experience, and are looking to commission a mural for one of the main walls.
The Coworking space initiative is the undertaking of the Cape Cod Chamber s economic development pillar using funds from the Cape Cod Economic Development Corporation Inc. (CCEDC), REDO grant and license plate grants. We recently received funding from the Collaborative Workspace Program administered by MassDevelopment to help complete the fit out of the space, and that funding allows us to install a painted mural on one of the walls. For this portion of our site improvement, we are pleased to have the assistance of the Cape Cod Art Association to solicit mural ideas for the space. We hope the submissions reflect the spirit of the space. About the space: The area to be painted is approximately 7-6 high by 14 long It will be sheet rocked, and the seams will be sealed. The sheetrock will be sanded and primed. There are two windows on that wall, and there will be cut outs for them. These can be trimmed, if needed. There are two green walls (Sherwin Williams Hearts of Palm SW6415, Egg Shell) perpendicular to the mural wall. The floor will be painted a middle gray.
