Noon Questions and Answers 12:15 Lunch and Time with Exhibitors 1:30 Cystic Fibrosis: Priorities and Progress for Future Therapies Eitan Kerem, MD Participants will be able to: understand basic mechanisms of increasing CFTR function in patients with cystic fibrosis; and present the available therapies including CFTR modulators, the pathway that leads to their development, their impact on lung function, and prospects for the next generation of targeted therapies. 2 Movement Thomas Ferkol, MD Participants will be able to: understand the genetics and pathophysiology of pediatric ciliopathies, and recognize how these advances are changing diagnostics and potentially treatment of primary ciliary dyskinesia. 2:30 The Weighty Impact of Childhood Obesity on Respiratory Health Dominic Fitzgerald, MBBS, PhD, FRACP Participants will be able to: appreciate the respiratory health consequences of childhood obesity for an individual and for society in general; understand the extent of the childhood obesity problem, and adjust clinical practice in response to the challenges of managing childhood obesity. 3 Obstructive Sleep Apnea Update 2017 Justin Brockbank, MD Participants will be able to: explain what is currently known regarding the pathophysiology of obstructive sleep apnea in the pediatric population; and describe current surgical and medical management approaches to children and infants with OSA. 3:30 Questions and Summary Bruce Rubin, MEngr, MD, MBA, FRCPC 3:45 Adjourn Shuttle will transport attendees back to the Children s Pavilion.

Program Description About Dr. Kendig Dr. Edwin L. Kendig was a pioneer in the study of pediatric pulmonology and the founder/director of the first children s chest clinic at the Medical College of Virginia. He also was actively involved with the American Academy of Pediatrics and served as a guest lecturer around the world. In his honor, Children s Hospital of Richmond at VCU created the Edwin L. Kendig, Jr., MD Award to recognize individuals for their lifetime achievements in the field of pediatric pulmonary medicine. Audience This symposium brings together local, national and international leaders in pediatric pulmonary medicine. The target audience includes physicians, nurse practitioners and other health care professionals who provide pediatric primary or subspecialty care. The symposium is a celebration of the pioneering pediatric pulmonary work of Edwin L. Kendig Jr., MD and 70 years of dedication to the care of children with respiratory diseases. Accreditation and Credit Physicians University Health Services Professional Education Programs (UHS-PEP) of Virginia Commonwealth University Health System is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education to provide continuing medical education for physicians. UHS-PEP designates this live activity for a maximum of 4.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity. Nurses ANCC and the Virginia Board of Nursing accept AMA PRA Category 1 Credits from organizations accredited by the ACCME for your CNE contact hour requirements for recertification or relicensure.
