The 2018-19 club and district leaders have been working tirelessly to plan and organize for another successful Rotary year. Now is the time to put all of those efforts into action! As the new Rotary year begins, follow through with plans toward meeting the goals your club set for Membership and Engagement, Rotary Foundation Giving, Service, Youth Leaders and Public Image. This year will mark year 10 of our district wide fundraising effort in support of Children s of Alabama Critical Care Transport Team. We are close to reaching the original target of raising $1 million and I want to call on each of you to help us achieve that goal this year. There are opportunities for Rotarians in our district to help out financially as well as volunteer with this fun, family friendly tailgate event on August 18, 2018 at Otey s in Mountain Brook. Please mark your calendars and plan to attend and support Boiling N Bragging. As one of the members of your district leadership team for 2018-19, I am delighted to have the opportunity to serve as your District Governor. We have 52 clubs in our district, each with its own unique characteristics, and each supporting their local communities in amazing ways. I want to encourage every Rotarian in the district to take advantage of learning opportunities available at the District and Zone level to develop leadership skills and deepen your knowledge and understanding of Rotary such as the Evanston Trip to visit Rotary International headquarters, Rotary Leadership Institute, Zone Summer Leadership Seminars and Zone Institute. Every day I am inspired by Rotarians in our district who give tirelessly of themselves to serve our communities locally and globally. Barry Rassin, Rotary International President for 2018-19 has selected the theme Be the Inspiration. He asks each of us to inspire with your words and with your deeds, doing what we need to do today to build a Rotary that will be stronger tomorrow stronger when we leave it than it was when we came. Founder of Rotary PAUL HARRIS In late 1904, Chicago attorney Paul Harris had an idea, Why not have a fellowship composed of businessmen from different occupations, without restrictions of politics or religion? His idea was born, in part, from loneliness, and, in part, from acquaintance with a few tradesmen he had met after moving to Chicago from Vermont. The idea gave birth, on February 23, 1905, to the creation of a club, meeting for fellowship at the various members' places of business. This rotation of the meeting place led to the name Rotary, and others soon began to join the group... a merchant, an engineer, a tailor, and more. As initial members traveled or moved, the idea spread and, by 1910, with 16 clubs, the National Association of Rotary Clubs was organized. When clubs were formed in Canada and Great Britain, the name was changed to International Association of Rotary Clubs and, in 1922, was shortened to Rotary International. Paul Harris was the first president of both the National Association and the International Association. The Rotary Foundation lends his name, through Paul Harris Fellowships, to honor benefactors and donors who support the work of the Foundation and its worldwide humanitarian and educational programs. The Rotary Foundation continues to be the major vehicle of Rotarian service internationally. Service Above Self They Profit Most Who Serve Best 3

I m sure that you have found in Rotary what I have found since I joined my club back in 1980: fellowship and a sense of purpose. We belong to an organization that has had a profound impact on our world through effective, sustainable service. Since Rotary was founded, we have formed partnerships with like-minded organizations, launched the world s largest public-private health initiative, and funded countless projects that have improved our local and global communities. It s only by coming together that we re able to accomplish so much. And now, we have to look to the future and consider how we can continue to move Rotary forward. We have to make sure the good we do now leads to better lives tomorrow and beyond. We shouldn t focus on this year or the next, but on how what we achieve will matter beyond our own time in Rotary. As our new vision statement says: Together, we see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change across the globe, in our communities, and in ourselves. Our founder Paul Harris once said, Rotary is a microcosm of a world at peace, a model which nations will do well to follow. To me, Rotary is not only a model but an inspiration. Mark Maloney Rotary International President Elect Rotary International Director 1999-2001 Rotary Foundation Trustee 2004-08 and Vice Chair 2006-08 District Parliamentarian 2016-2018 Mark, a Rotarian since 1980, is an attorney with Blackburn, Maloney and Schuppert, LLC in Decatur practicing in the areas of taxation, estate planning, and agricultural law. Mark served as President of the Rotary Club of Decatur in 1985-86 and as Governor of District 686 in 1989-90. He has since served as RI Director, Aide to the President, Vice Chair of the 2004 Council on Legislation, Chair of the 2010 Council on Legislation, Chair of the 2014 Sydney Convention Committee, and a member of many committees. In 2015-16, Mark was Chair of the Operations Review Committee, Chair of the Convention Strategy Working Group, and Parliamentarian and Trainer for the 2016 Council on Legislation. Mark has also been heavily involved in Foundation support as a Rotary Foundation Trustee, Vice Chair of the Trustees, Vice Chair of the Future Vision Committee, and a Permanent Fund National Advisor. In 2015-16, Mark was a member of the Rotary Peace Centers Committee and the Water and Sanitation in Schools Working Group. Mark, along his wife, Gay (a member and past President of the Rotary Club of Decatur Daybreak), are Paul Harris Fellows, Benefactors, and Major Donors of the Foundation and members of the Bequest Society and the Paul Harris Society. They have two daughters (Phyllis Johnson and Margaret Maloney), a goddaughter (Suzanna Greer), and two grandsons (Patrick and Peter Johnson). 6
Rotary International Representatives Rotary International Director - Zones 30-31 for 2017-2019 GREG YANK O FALLON, ILLINOIS Greg is a business coach to 6 owners of small to medium size businesses. He spent 25 years in health care executive management and leadership serving twice as a hospital CEO and as President and CEO of a Catholic Health System. For 11 years, Greg owned a business coaching/peer advisory board franchise called The Alternative Board TAB. He is the principal in GY Consulting & Facilitation Services specializing in business coaching, strategy, facilitation, strategic governance and board development/education. A Rotarian since 1978, Greg is a member of the Rotary Club of O Fallon, IL where he served as Club President in 1992-93, and then as Governor of District 6510 twice in 2001-02 and again in 2010-11. District 6510 is comprised of 48 clubs and 1600 members in Southern Illinois. He has held other Rotary positions: Regional Membership Plan Project Plan Lead (Membership Chair) for Zones 30 and 31 (2015-17), International Training Leader, Membership Coordinator, Institute Chair and leads both his district and Zones 30-31 Club visioning initiative. Greg is married to past district governor and business owner Catherine Taylor Yank. The Yanks are members of the Arch Klumph Society, Paul Harris and Bequest Societies and are Major Donors. Greg was honored to receive the Service above Self Award in 2014. He has travelled to Malawi, Ecuador, India and Belize on Rotary projects. Greg is actively involved in his community. He is a Commissioner of the Metro East Park & Recreation District; Advisory Board member for the Nielsen Healthcare Group in St. Louis; and a Board Member of the O Fallon Shiloh Chamber of Commerce and chairperson of its strategic planning committee. Greg believes that Rotary enables him to live a life that matters as lives in our communities and the world are changed because of what we do! Rotary Foundation Trustee 2016-2020 Rotary Foundation Vice Chair 2016-2018 Rotary International Director 2011-2013 and VP for 2012-2013 KEN SCHUPPERT DECATUR Ken, a Rotarian since 1982, is a past president of Decatur Rotary Club and served as DG in 1996-97. He is a Partner with the law firm of Blackburn, Maloney & Schuppert, LLC in Decatur and has served our District, Zones 30-31 and RI in many roles. Ken served as Zone 30 Regional Rotary Membership Coordinator 2002-06 and Foundation Coordinator 2006-09, as the District Parliamentarian for many years, as RI Director 2011-13, as RI Vice-President 2012-13 and as Vice-Chair of the 2015 RI Convention. Ken and his wife Lynn served as Aides to the RI President and First Lady in 2014-15. Ken has served at the RI Council of Legislation in various ways since 2001, and as Chair of the RI Constitution & By-Laws Committee. Ken and Lynn, who is also a very active Rotarian and a Partner of the same law firm served as Moderators of the 2016 RI International Assembly. They are both Paul Harris Fellows, Major Donors, Benefactors, and members of the Bequest Society. 7

Assistant Governors Rotary Clubs of District 6860 are divided into groups of from three to five clubs in a geographic area. Fourteen select Rotarians are on-site representatives of the District Governor for those clubs. AGs get to know clubs and club officers to a degree the Governor could not do with all 52 clubs. AGs help clubs formulate goals for the Rotary Year, help them prepare for the Governor s official visit, assist with their projects, encourage attendance at district meetings, and help presidents-elect prepare for the next year. Governor Support Team MARY GRACE EVANS District Secretary Mary is a member and past president of Greater Huntsville Rotary Club. The District Secretary is responsible for District record keeping and for assistance with correspondence for the governor. RONNIE SMALLWOOD District Treasurer The District Treasurer keeps financial records for the Governor, receives club dues, and pays district bills. Ronnie is a member of the Decatur Daybreak Rotary Club. BO PORTER District Parliamentarian Bo is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Shades Valley and served as District Governor in 2002-03. The District Parliamentarian provides guidance to the District Governor on Rotary policies, procedures and practices. WES BROWN District Auditor Wes is a member and past president of the Rotary Club of Shades Valley. As Auditor, he will ensure the financial records of the district comply with the highest possible standards. 14
Governor Support Personnel DON WIGINTON Membership and Public Image Don is a member of the Rotary Club of Vestavia Hills. As Coordinator for Membership and Public Image, Don is the Governor s liaison to committees that promote membership growth and development, establish new clubs and promote awareness and publicity for Rotary and Rotarian efforts taking place in clubs and throughout the district. LORI MOLER RI Programs Coordinator As Coordinator for RI Programs, Lori is the Governor s liaison with six committees that implement RI programs both locally and internationally, especially promoting club activity within those committees. She is a past president of the Rotary Club of North Shelby-Inverness and is currently a member of the Vestavia Hills Sunrise Club. Lori also serves as an Assistant Governor. JOHN VALIEANT Administration Coordinator As Administrative Coordinator, John assists the committees that support district communications internally and externally. RONNIE DUKES and CARLA DAILY District Training Coordinators Ronnie Dukes and Carla Daily serve as Training Coordinators for the District. They are responsible for planning and coordinating PrePETS, District Team Leadership Training, District Training Assembly, the Mid-Year Conference, District Conference and President-Elect and officer training programs. 15
Governor Support Personnel JOHN FERGUSON Avenue of Service Coordinator John is a member and past president of the Decatur Daybreak Rotary Club. As Avenue of Service Coordinator, John is the Governor s liaison to provide coordination, direction and implementation between the service committees. WADE DRINKARD District Rotary Foundation Coordinator Wade is a member of the Rotary Club of Tuscaloosa and a Past District Governor from District 6880. As District Rotary Foundation Coordinator, Wade is the Governor s liaison to committees supporting the various programs of The Rotary Foundation including humanitarians grants and scholarships, Peace Centers, PolioPlus, Foundation Recognition and Fundraising. 16
2018-2019 DISTRICT ANNUAL GOALS District Governor Carol Argo SUPPORT AND STRENGTHEN CLUBS Achieve a net gain of 1 member in each club Clubs maintain or improve their retention rate of current and new members Charter at least one new club, satellite club or eclub in the district Encourage clubs to sponsor at least one new Rotaract Club and one new Interact club in the district Promote Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) training with a goal of graduating 10 Rotarians Promote Visioning with a goal of 5 clubs participating in strategic planning Promote assistant governor club visits on a quarterly basis with updates to the club visit report after each club visit FOCUS AND INCREASE HUMANITARIAN SERVICE Each club contributes at least $125 per capita to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation Provide grant training seminars to qualify clubs in the district to apply for district grants and global grants Promote district and global grants with the following goals: 40 clubs apply for district grants 5 clubs apply for global humanitarian or global scholar grants Support at least 1 application for the Peace Fellows program Allocate 20 percent of DDF to support PolioPlus Allocate $25,000 in DDF to continue support as a Peace Builder District (Peace Fellows Program) Complete the district goal of raising $1 million in support of the Critical Care Transport Team of Children s of Alabama (year 10 of the effort) ENHANCE PUBLIC IMAGE AND AWARENESS Each club host a Rotary Day to enhance the public image of Rotary in local communities 100 percent of clubs within the district enter and update goals in Rotary Club Central Promote attendance at the Rotary International Convention with a goal of 50 attending Promote attendance the District Conference with a goal of 125 Rotarians attending Maintain the district website Use social media at the club and district level to promote events, activities and service projects Publish a district directory electronically Publish a monthly electronic newsletter Issue a weekly update to PEs and district leadership via pmail 17
2018-2019 ROTARY DISTRICT 6860 AWARDS The Rotary District 6860 Awards Program is intended to recognize the accomplishments of Rotary, Rotaract and Interact clubs that excel during the 2018-19 Rotary year. All Rotary Clubs in our district are encouraged to plan ahead and apply for awards EVERYONE enjoys recognition for their efforts. AWARDS are the way we can say Congratulations for a job WELL DONE! from the district to the clubs! The Awards program will be published in the District Directory as well as on the district website. All awards with due dates have been scheduled for submission on the same date, June 30, 2019 except the Vocational Service Award which is January 15, 2019 and the Rotaract and Interact District Citations which are due April 15, 2019. All other awards requiring club or AG input will be submitted on either the Standard Award Application or the Vibrant Club Application to the Awards Chair, by the June 30, 2019 deadline. Please feel free to contact the Awards Chair, PDG Bo Porter with any questions. For the purpose of applying for awards, a Small Club is defined as having 50 or fewer members and a Large Club is defined as having 51 or more members. GENERAL AWARDS VOCATIONAL SERVICE AWARDS - Recognize, each Rotary year, one Non-Rotarian person in District 6860 and one D-6860 Rotarian for Vocational Service on a District, State, Regional, National, or World basis (i.e. vocational service recognized significantly beyond the territory of a club). This application deadline is early and should be made to the Chair, Council of Governors (COG), PDG Pat Cross, by January 15, 2019. The COG will make the final selection. In the unlikely event there is not a qualified nominee, as deemed by the COG, the award(s) will not be presented. TOM MILFORD SERVICE ABOVE SELF AWARD - Awarded to the District 6860 Rotarian that has best exemplified Service Above Self during the current Rotary year. This award is to be chosen by the District Governor. Suggestions from clubs or members will be welcome and appreciated. (This is an award that clubs may want to suggest their Rotarian of the Year.) DISTRICT CITATION - The District Citation recognizes the efforts of clubs to perform the fundamental tasks of running a club well. Required items: Each item must be accomplished. ROTARY CITATION WITH PRESIDENTIAL DISTINCTION - The Rotary Citation with Presidential Distinction will be awarded to clubs that achieve the Rotary Citation plus one to three additional goals. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION AWARDS EVERY ROTARIAN, EVERY YEAR AWARD - A banner will be presented to each club that achieves a minimum Annual Fund contribution of $100 per capita during the Rotary year, and every dues-paying member must personally contribute at least $25 to the Annual Fund during the year. 2018-2019 ROTARY DISTRICT 6860 AWARDS 100% FOUNDATION GIVING CLUB - For clubs that achieve an average of $100 in per capita giving and 100 percent participation, with every dues-paying member contributing at least $25 to any or all of the following during the Rotary year: Annual Fund, PolioPlus Fund, approved global grants, or Endowment Fund. No application required ANNUAL FUND PER CAPITA - For the three clubs in the district that give the most, per capita, to the Annual Fund. Clubs that give at least $50 per capita are eligible. First, second and third place awards will be given for both small clubs and large clubs. Per capita is the total amount contributed to the Annual Fund divided by the 1 July members (for new clubs this is the current members). No application required. POLIO PLUS GIVING - Awarded to the club with the highest giving to the Polio Plus campaign. First, second, and third place awards will be given for both Small and Large clubs. TOTAL CONTRIBUTION TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION (TRF) - Awarded to the club that gives the most money to The Rotary Foundation, including annual and permanent funds and Polio Plus, during the period July 1, 2018- June 30 2019. LEADERSHIP AWARDS OUTSTANDING LEADERSHIP AWARD - Awarded to a member of the District Leadership Team who demonstrates outstanding qualities of leadership during the current Rotary year. No application required. Recipient will be selected by the District Governor. ROTARY LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (RLI) - Any club with a club member who completed the RLI 3 part course will be recognized. The RLI coordinator will provide the Awards Chair, a list of clubs with Rotarians that have graduated from RLI in Rotary year 2018-19. MEMBERSHIP AWARDS SUPERIOR CLUB MEMBERSHIP GROWTH - Any club that exceeds membership growth above 5% as measured from July 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 will be recognized. The Small and Large Clubs with the highest percentage of membership growth will be recognized. First, second, and third place awards will be given for both Small and Large clubs. Honorable Mention will be presented to all others eligible. No application is required. No action required by Clubs. CLUB MEMBERSHIP GROWTH - Awarded to all clubs who meet or exceed Membership Goals for the club. Goals must be a net growth of one or greater to be eligible. The membership growth period is July 1, 2018 June 30, 2019 with each club s starting membership count as of July 1st. The District Secretary and the Awards Committee will calculate the growth. The district governor submits the names of all qualifying clubs to Rotary International. Each recognized club will receive a certificate signed by the RI President and a BANNER from the District Governor. No application is required. No action required by Clubs. CLUB MEMBER RETENTION - Any Club who retains 100% of their membership or increases their retention rate by 1% over the last year between July 1, 2018 and June 30, 2019 will be recognized as an Active Membership Club. Local celebrities serve as MC s and participate in fun events such as a corn hole tournament and football trivia. Prizes, hotdogs and hamburgers on the grill and a low country boil bring out the best in attendees! 10 tailgate teams had tents at the event this year including Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, Tennessee and UAB. All event proceeds go to Critical Care Transport unit of Children s Hospital. International Service JENNY JUCEVICIUTE Chair Mission: To advance international understanding, goodwill, and peace by fostering acquaintance with people of other countries, their cultures, customs, accomplishments, aspirations, and problems, through reading and correspondence and through cooperation in all club activities and projects designed to help people in other lands. District Grant Audit BILL HARWELL Chair Mission: This committee is a three member committee formed in accordance with the Future Vision Pilot Program to audit the funds received from the Rotary Foundation at the concolusion of each year of the pilot. Strategic Planning BILL PETTY Chair Mission: To develop and implement an ongoing process and discipline for planning long-range growth and development of Rotary District 6860 and all clubs. Rotary Leadership Institute SUE MITCHELL Chair Mission: The RLI seeks to have Rotary Clubs in District 6860 identify those Rotarians who could have the potential for future club and district leadership and provide those so identified with a quality education in Rotary knowledge and leadership skills so important in voluntary organizations. District Leadership Plan GARY ANDREW Chair Mission: To develop and update annually the District Leadership Plan which provides guidelines for the effective operation of the District. District Insurance Representative MARTIN UPTAIN Chair Mission: To review and distribute Rotary International Insurance requirements to clubs and the District leadership.
