GENERAL INFORMATION PARKING AND ACCESS Entrances 1 and 2 on Main Street will be closed. All vehicles must park at either of the following two locations: (1) Enter at Entrance 8 on University Boulevard at Stockton and park in the Stadium Lot, or (2) Enter at Entrance 13 on Rice Boulevard and park in the North Lot. The campus loop shuttle buses will be running from the Stadium Lot for your convenience. A very limited number of parking spaces have been reserved in the Cohen House Lot for guests requiring special assistance. These passes are given out on a firstcome, first-served basis, so please reserve your pass early. To reserve a pass to this parking area, please call 713-348-4046 or email cmccain@rice.edu. An electric cart will be available to transport those guests from the Cohen House Lot to the Academic Quadrangle. Please do not park in unauthorized locations. Cars interfering with Commencement will be removed. SPECIAL NEEDS Hearing Impaired- An interpreter for the deaf will interpret the entire Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 8. For more information, refer to the section on "Special Seating." A limited number of assisted listening devices for the Commencement ceremony will be available on a first-come, first-served basis in Sewall Hall, Room 305, beginning at 7:30A.M. on May 8. If you need further assistance for a guest or student with special needs, please contact Disabled Student Services at 713-348-5841. The courtesy of two weeks notice for special accommodations would be appreciated. SPECIAL SEATING Special sections in front of the bachelor's candidates will be reserved for those in wheelchairs and those who need a closer view of the signer. These sections have plywood secured to the lawn. Because of the limited space in these sections, only one additional family member or guest will be allowed to join the guest requiring the special seating. Reservations will not be necessary. Please contact an usher if you need directions to these special sections. All other guests should sit in the folding chairs in the regular guest sections. If, for medical reasons, someone in your party must sit in the shade, we recommend that you arrive early in order to secure a seat in the section along Sewall Hall on the south side of the Academic Quadrangle. This side usually stays shady longer than the other sections. REGALIA, ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND RINGS Academic regalia must be worn by all degree candidates choosing to participate in the Commencement ceremony. Orders are taken at the Campus Store. Personalized graduation announcements to send to family and friends also are available for purchase. Rice University class rings may be ordered at any time from the Campus Store. For more information, call 713-348-4052. WEATHER. The Commencement ceremony on Saturday will be held outside. Umbrellas, sunscreen, and other protection from sun or rain are advisable. Gymnasium. S ating in Autry Court is extremely limited, and all seating is on the second floor, which is accessible only by lairs. Please contact campus police at 713-348-6000 or the campu operator at 713-348-0000 for confirmation after 7:00A.M. on the morning of Commencement. If the inclement weather plan is in effect, all degree candidates should assemble in the Rice Gymnasium by 7:45A.M. TtC KETS No tickets will be issued for the Commencement ceremony in the Academic Quadrangle. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. Two tickets for the inclement weather plan will be distributed to degree candidates in the Cam pus Store beginning May 3. A limited number of addi tiona] family members and guests may be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Closed-circuit television viewing will be available at other venues on campus. RE.STROOMS, WATER. FIRST AlD Restrooms will be open in buildings adjacent to the Academic Quadrangle. Restrooms for handicapped guests can be found in Sewall Hall. Drinking water and first aid facilities will also be available. Please ask the ushers for assistance. PHOTOGRAPHS AND ViDEOTAPES A still photograph of each diploma recipient will be made by a professional photographer working on the platform. The photographer will also be available in the Rice Memorial Center May 4, from 11 A.M. until1 P.M., and May 5-7, from 11 A.M. until2 P.M., and in Anne and Charles Duncan Hall on May 8, following Commencement until 2 P.M., to take portraits of degree candidates in their regalia. The sitting is optional and free of charge. The entire ceremony will also be professionally videotaped. Photographs and videotapes will be offered for sale by the vendors, who will contact all graduates at their permanent address on file with the registrar within a few weeks following Commencement. Family members and other guests will be allowed to spend a short time in special photo areas to the side of the Commencement platform. Please do not block the aisles or other people's views, be conscious of where you are standing, and please observe the directions of the marshals and ushers. ArTER TilE CEREMONY Graduating students will march out through the Sallyport to refreshment tables in Founder's Court on the cast side of Lovett I I all. Tell the reservation clerk that you are attending Rice University Commencement. Make reservations early in order to secure these special rates and ensure room availability.
