Nursing students at IUP participate in clinical simulation as part of their learning experience. Recently, the addition of standardized patients has enhanced our department s simulation practices. A standardized patient is a person who has been carefully coached to accurately portray an actual patient. Last week, four of Professor April Daras theater students portrayed patients and partnered with students from community and psychiatric mental health classes for a series of simulation scenarios. Nursing faculty, including Drs. Crytzer, Calderone, and Zidek and Ms. Donna Leckey, guided the students through the simulations while Professor Daras directed the actors in playing out the scripts. Collaborative debriefing with all students made for a successful day. We are all looking forward to our next simulation adventure. Thanks to all who participated last week! 2 3 3 4 5
