Mallory Building will be receiving a facelift this winter. Unfortunately, this requires us to close it for a period of time beginning Monday, January 16. The new-and-improved Lounge will reopen with its complimentary coffee and hot chocolate Saturday, February 4. 2017 MALLORY INTERNATIONAL EXCHANGE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM Proposals are now being accepted for the 2017 Mallory International Exchange Fellowship Program. This year the Fellowship will be used to support a colleague(s) from a foreign museum, library, historic site, or other educational institution in any discipline related to Mystic Seaport s mission to travel to Mystic Seaport for research and study purposes. The Mallory Fellowship Endowment was established in 1993 by Wade and Angela Thompson to honor Clifford and Pauline Mallory for their many years of service to Mystic Seaport. The stated purpose of the fund is...to create an international exchange program between the Seaport and other institutions... Proposals should be submitted by a Mystic Seaport staff member sponsoring a colleague from a foreign museum, library, historic site, or other educational institution to travel to Mystic Seaport. The submitter of the successful proposal(s) will have the general responsibilities of any project
Manager-- to ensure that funds are spent according to the approved budget, and to prepare a 1-2 page narrative project report at the conclusion of the project, which the Advancement Office may forward to the donor. Funds are available to fund one or more projects (total funding for the Fellowship Program not to exceed $8,500). Each proposal must contain: - Project Title - Title Page including name and signature of staff member, department director, and vice president sponsoring the proposal. Proposals from DDs or VPs must be signed by Steve White or Susan Funk. - Project Abstract (1-2 page maximum) including goals and intended outcomes of the project, description of the resources to be researched, and names of colleagues for consultation. - A letter of support from the foreign institution. - Project Budget indicating proposed budget period and detailed breakdown of expenses not to exceed $8,500 per project. - Proposed Exchange timeframe and schedule. - Resume of the proposed visiting Museum professional participant. Due date is January 31, 2017. Proposals should be submitted to Jeanne Gade, Director of HR, for transmittal to Mallory Fellowship Selection Committee for review. Late submissions will not be accepted. Proposal Evaluation and Selection: Proposals will be evaluated by the Selection Committee on a number of different criteria, particularly the relationship of proposed activities to the advancement of Mystic Seaport s mission and strategic initiatives. The Selection Committee consists of 5 staff members, including past Mallory Fellowship recipients. The top 3 proposals may be shared with the donors for their involvement and input prior to making the final selection. Selections will be announced by early February 2017. DISCOUNTED TICKETS FOR PROVIDENCE BRUINS Mystic Seaport employees, volunteers, and their friends and family can purchase tickets to upcoming Providence Bruins games for a discounted price. Tickets are $20 per person and include a free voucher for a popcorn and choice of any 12oz Beverage. Also included is a Free Slice coupon valid at participating Papa Gino s. The games are Friday, January 13th at 7:05 pm and Sunday, January 15 at 3:05 pm. The deadline to purchase tickets is January 11th. FIRST THURSDAY Many thanks to Elysa Engelman for a memorable presentation and walking tour of the new SeaChange exhibit. This exhibit is a must see and it was mind-boggling to hear of the many details that it took to get this spectacular exhibit up and running! Our February 2 nd First Thursday is entitled: Mystic Seaport s Collections: A Maritime Treasure Mystic Seaport s remarkable collections, established in 1929, today include more than 1.5 million items reflecting the American maritime experience. Curator of Collections, Fred Calabretta, will provide an overview of this extraordinary resource, highlighting some of the collection s most unique and exceptional artifacts and the often-dramatic stories they tell.
