This section establishes the requirement for the use of standard and uniform nomenclature for electronic and weapons control interface functions flowing through systems and equipment component boundaries of Naval ship combat systems.. REFERENCED DOCUMENTS. Covernnent documents... Standards. Unless otherwise specified, tbe following standards of the issue listed in that issue of the Department of Defense Index of Specifications and Standards (DoDISS) specified in the solicitation form a part of thi.a standard to the extent specified herein. STANDARDS MILITARY MIL-STD-343 - Glossary of Terms for Electronic and Neapons Control Interface Functions (Naval Ship Combat Systems ). DOD-STD-399 - Interface Standard for Shipboard Systems. (Metric) (Copies of standards required by contractors in connection with specific acquisition functions should be obtained from the contracting activity or as directed by the contracting officer. ). Order of precedence. In the event of a conflict between the text of this standard and the references cited herein, the text of this standard shall take precedence. 3. DEFINITIONS 3. Interface function. An interface function is a unit of functional information or pbyaica I action and relation which flows through an interface. It is a discrete electrical, electronic, or mechanical information identity or action identity that can be defined by ita characteristics or time relationship. 3. Interface function term. An interface function term is the precise and unique nomenclature applied to an interface in accordance with prescribed standards. 4. REQUIREMENTS 4. The nomenclature requirements established herein are mandatory (see requirements of DOD-STD-399).

MIL-STD- 399(NAVY) SECTION 50A January 988 5. DESCRIPTION AND APPLICATION 5. Description. Standard and uniform requirements for nomenclature 05 electronic and weapons ccilltrolinterface functions have been established by NIL-STD-343. It provides for the structuring of such terms in all foreseeable situations in connection with electronic and weapons control interface functions utilized in Naval ship combat systems. 5. Application. ~ L-sTD-343 shall be used to assign standard and uniform nomenclature for electronic and weapons control interface functons used in Naval ship combat systems wherever applicable. 6. DSVIATIONS 6. Terms not available. Although MIL-STD-343 provides for the structuring of electronic and weapons control interface function terms for any foreseen situation, it is still conceivable that technological advances affecting the design of future systems and equipments may require terms not available from NIL-STD- I343. In such instance, a report shall be submitted promptly which fully identifies the functions involved and completely describes the proposed use and the parameters (see 6.). NAVSEA will then provide the proper standard nomenclature to be used. NAVSEA will also incorporate the new terms in subsequent revision of MI L-STD-343. 6. Reporting procedure.
