County Fair Exhibitors Write a thank you! All exhibitors are encouraged to write a thank you note to a county fair supporter. They will be happy to hear from you! Let them know you appreciate their support of the county fair. Ribbon Auction Exhibitors Ribbon auction participants are REQUIRED to write a thank you to the ribbon buyer. Exhibitors should email a picture showing the completed thank you to kblake@iastate.edu in order to receive checks. County Awards Application September 15 You can take exhibiting at the county fair one step further and apply for county project awards. Half of the forms should already be complete if you have been keeping accurate records throughout the year. Award recipients will then be recognized at the Story County 4-H Award Program on Sunday, November 19 at 2:00pm at the Community Building in Nevada. There is a club citizenship award, individual participation awards, project awards, and much more! This 4-H award process provides an opportunity for youth to complete an application as they will do so later in life for an employment, or scholarships. 4-H Award Applications are due into the Extension office by 5:00pm September 15. **Story County 4-H Project Record** is REQUIRED for county 4-H project awards. This form is used for each project area you have participated in. County Awards Program November 19 This 4-H recognition event will take place at the Nevada Community Building November 19 at 2:00pm. This is a special program recognizing all the work that went into this year! This year we will be recognizing: County Council members Banner Club 4-Her s for 4-H National 4-H Week winners State/National exhibitors 4-H Hall of Fame Leaders service, Award applications Clover Kid Graduates High School Graduates And MORE! Youth Development Committee Banner Club! The Youth Development Committee is pleased to announce a new club incentive program to increase participation in county activities and provide an opportunity for club pride. Clubs should meet as many of the criteria (found on page 6) as possible as a part of regular participation. Clubs will be asked to self-report participation. Clubs should turn in forms on or before June 25, 2018 at 6:00PM. Once your club has selected a point of contact, or committee, please contact Katelyn Blake with member name, club, and email to receive the criteria spreadsheet. Note: leaders will have limited access to criteria, youth will fill out criteria and turn it in at the end of the year. When you see the banner in the 4-H newsletter this year, you will know that it is part of the Banner Club criteria list. This will make it easier for members, and club point of contacts to be aware of activities to attend. Good Luck, we hope all clubs participate. Placings will be announced at the 2018 Story County Fair clubs will also receive recognition at the 2018 awards program. 2

Re-enroll for 2017-2018 September 1 The new program year is HERE! This year we are excited to have the online credit card option to 4-H families! Step 1: As a returning 4-H or Clover Kid member, log into iowa.4honline.com to re-enroll. Your family already has a profile. Your username is your email. Then type your password. If you lost this password click I forgot my password for a temporary password. $30 Iowa 4-H Program Development Fee $40 Story County 4-H Program Development Fee September 1 December 31 $50 Story County 4-H Program Development (late fee) January 1 forward $5/15 Story County supports 4-H program Step 2: Submit the annual 4-H youth $5 Iowa 4-HOnline development membership enrollment fee support fee to the Extension office. You can choose to pay online right away with a credit card by clicking the yellow button to add a credit card on the payment screen. Until you have added a credit card for the first time, the county check option is the only one that shows up. Or you can mail a check to (and payable to) Story County Extension, PO Box 118, Nevada, Iowa 50201. In the memo, please note your child s name and 4-H or Clover Kid membership. Awards program Member/Leader insurance County workshops Annual Leader Training New Volunteer Training Rentals for county events Officer training Mail reminders Monthly newsletters FSQA training Livestock ID forms Here are the fees: From September 1 through December 31, 2017 the enrollment fees is $40 per 4-H member in grades 4-12 and $10 per Clover Kid in grades K-3. A late fee will be added January 1, 2018 increasing the fee to $50 per 4-H member and $15 per Clover Kid member. Financial assistance is available through the Iowa 4-H Foundation to help with the $30 Iowa 4-H Program Development portion at www.iowa4hfoundation.org/ en/funding_opportunities/ iowa_4h_program_fee_assistance/. Foundation Pioneer Grant Report Due October 2 If your club received a grant this past January from Iowa 4-H Foundation DuPont Grants, your report deadline is coming up. Reports for 2016-2017 grants are due to the Extension office no later than Oct 2, 2017. Please get these in before the deadline. Each club receiving a grant must submit a report. Details are outlined in the award letter. In the report, be sure to include at least one photo of the activity, newspaper clippings, project details, and volunteer numbers as outlined in the award letter. 3

2017-2018 County Youth Council (Previously Leadership Team) The 2016-2017 Leadership Team members voted to change the name to County Youth Council for the 2017-2018 program year. The 2017-2018 County Council is open to all Story County 4-Hers in grades 7 through 12. 4-Hers that wish to be apart of the council must fill out an application if they intend to participate. Applications can be found on page 7, and are due by September 30. Applicants will then have a scheduled interview time to practice their interview skills. This was an area the 2016-2017 Leadership Team wished they had more practice at. Interviews will be scheduled in the month of October with Overall Project Award interviews. Applicants will then be announced at the 2017 awards program on November 19. Finally, members must attend the first and/or second meeting if they wish to stay on County Council. Agriculture Safety Event Sign-up by September 8 Event: September 16 Story County Extension will be hosting a Family Agricultural Safety Day at the Story County Fairgrounds in Nevada from 11:00am 2:00pm. There is no registration fee, but pre-registration is required. This event is open for all who are interested in learning more about how to be safe around agricultural products. Families and youth that participate in the event will enjoy presentations from ISU Extension and Outreach staff, industry partners, and local COUNTY DATES September 15 County Award Applications Due September 29 County Youth Council Applications Due November 5 Barns, Buttons and Bows, Community Building November 19 County Awards Program, Community Building December 30 Last day to enroll and avoid late fee community partners. Featuring: Arick Baker, a survivor of grain bin entrapment, will speak on his experience and Jesse Randall, ISU Extension Forester, will demonstrate chainsaw safety. National 4-H Week October 1-7 All week long 4-Her s will be sharing the clover with the world, how will you spread the word? Whatever you, or your club decides to do, send photos and a paragraph or two to Katelyn at kblake@iastate.edu. You will be in the running for great prizes at the Awards Program held November 19! Pleas send photos by Friday, October 20 to be eligible for prizes. Wear your 4-H t-shirt to school Volunteer to speak to a classroom or at a community organization about 4-H and what you have learned. Write a feature story on your club for your local newspaper put up a window display in your community. Plan a fun event for your club come as you are meal, build your own taco or pizza. Whatever you do tell Katelyn about it by emailing kblake@iastate.edu by October 20.
