Implemented by: Make-IT Accelerator // Programme Phase 2 // Cooperation readiness, traction and better access to markets Make-IT in Africa Make-IT in Africa promotes digital innovation for sustainable and inclusive development in sub-saharan Africa. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit () GmbH implements this project on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) as part of BMZ s Digital Africa Initiative. In close collaboration with more than 20 corporate and financing partners, social enterprises, hubs and networks, Make-IT in Africa supports an enabling environment for young entrepreneurs to enable better access to finance, markets and skills. Make-IT Accelerator The Make-IT Accelerator offers tech start-ups from East and West Africa a nine-month programme to help them strengthen their growth, cooperation and investment readiness. implementes the non-profit support programme in collaboration with renowned accelerators and hubs, as well as corporate and financing partners. As a non-profit provider, we take no equity, we charge no participation fee, and we make no other claims on intellectual property. The present cohort of the Make-IT Accelerator has been selected from an open call in close collaboration with tech hubs, business and financing partners. 28 tech start-ups from East and West Africa participate in the 9 months programme from January September 2018. Experienced partners support start-ups in navigating through three progressive phases of the Make-IT Accelerator programme: Phase 1: Capacity for Growth (January March 2018) The three-month capacity-building phase focuses on fundamental business principles, product and team. Implementation is carried out with private companies, chambers of commerce and associations. Individual exposure recommendations Matchmaking with potential business partners access to trade fairs and delegation trips Industry specific master classes Mentoring and peer learning Phase 3: Investment Readiness (June September 2018) The three-month support phase focuses on financing requirements and due diligence of the individual tech start-ups. Overview of Phase 2 In phase 2, all tech start-ups participating in the Make-IT Accelerator will get opportunities to show their products and make new business contacts with private sector partners, such as corporates, peers, and financing partners. Phase 2 starts with transition days in East and West Africa, and over a period of 3 months, Make-IT implements a variety of formats to inspire cooperation, connect start-ups with corporates and peers, and to develop new business and learning partnerships. Access to all the formats depends on individual exposure needs and recommendations, and on scope and focus of each specific format. events and exposure activities require a pre-selection and/or application. formats will be available for all participants of the Make-IT Accelerator programme. Phase 2 is based on events, virtual collaboration and exposure opportunities. These activities do not require full-time presence at a hub facility as it was the case in Phase 1. Tech star-ups shall integrate Phase 2 firmly into their daily businesses.
