Best of success to you during your season.

Auburn University Auburn University is located in the southeastern United States, in east-central Alabama, in Lee County. The city of Auburn has a population of 47,290 while an adjacent city, Opelika, has a population of 26,000. Auburn University, chartered in 1856, traces its beginning to the East Alabama Male College, a private liberal arts institution whose doors opened in 1859. From 1861 to 1866 the college was closed due to the Civil War. The college had begun affiliation with the Methodist Church before the war. Due to financial restraints, the church transferred legal control of the institution to the state in 1872, making it the first land-grant college in the South to be established separate from the state university. It thus became the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama. Women were admitted in 1892, and in 1899 the name again was changed, to the Alabama Polytechnic Institute. In 1960, the school acquired a more appropriate name, Auburn University, a title more in keeping with its location, size, and complexity. The institution has experienced its greatest growth since World War II, and today enrolls 22,120 students, the largest on-campus enrollment in the state. Geographically, the city of Auburn and Auburn University meet at what is known as AToomer=s Corner@. Here the flourishing community and expanding university create a warm, friendly spirit that can only be described as AAuburn@. The bond between the city and university is exemplified along the streets of downtown Auburn where tribute is paid to Auburn University=s greatest athletes, coaches, and administrators. Known as the Tiger Trail of Auburn, this walk of fame consists of 50 granite plaques bearing the inductee=s names. With each new year plaques will be added as more Auburn men and women are recognized for their contributions. The Tiger Trail is sponsored by the Auburn Chamber of Commerce and funded by private citizens. This tradition represents the connection between the city and the university which will remain forever. Truly, the city of Auburn is unique to the state of Alabama. Once the AAuburn spirit@ gets in your blood, you will never want to leave. Come to visit and stay a lifetime.
