Concept Note GNLU Center for Public International Law has a legacy in organizing various noble events in the field of Maritime Law to disseminate knowledge among various stakeholders. To further such gallant endeavour, GNLU is pleased to inform you that GNLU Center for Public International Law, is Organizing 6th edition of GNLU International Maritime Academy 2017 under the theme of Maritime Industry, Naval Power and Marine Environment. 2017 Edition is designed to explore and assess the trajectory of law and policy affecting maritime commerce, maritime security, and marine environmental protection and resource conservation. It aims to equip participants with knowledge on contemporary and advance issues and practices on maritime industry related development; to identify legal and policy issues interfacing the economic and industrial development aspects of marine economy; to acquire sound understanding of role and responsibility of blue water navies and maritime power in the development of the maritime industry and overall maritime security; to understand the impact and integration of marine environmental protection and marine resource conservation. Seas have always played a pivotal role in charting the course of history and the development of nations and societies. Maritime industry is a backbone of shipping business. Maritime industries comprise of companies engaged in the business of designing, constructing, manufacturing, acquiring, operating, supplying, repairing and/or maintaining vessels, or component parts thereof managing and/or operating shipping lines, and customs brokerage services, shipyards, dry docks, marine railways, marine repair shops, shipping and freight forwarding services, establishment and maintenance of ports and similar enterprises. This emerging industry also includes a significant component of traditional oil and gas and renewable energy (particularly wind, but also marine turbines). Maritime security is one of the key subject matter in relation to international maritime affairs as state practices concerning maritime security has its implications worldwide. The problems and challenges pertaining to maritime security have opened a series of deliberations and policy formulations that has to be undertaken by national and international scholars, policy makers, and practitioners associated therewith. The issues affecting maritime security are directly or indirectly associated to the maritime and shipping industry or shipping business which augments its significance.

Eligibility Serving officers dealing with law of the sea and maritime matters, Security, government and private intelligence agencies/companies, Lawyers and law firms, specializing in law of the sea and maritime laws, Governmental officers and staff, Researchers and students. Methodology Lectures (including video lectures), workshop, seminar & documentary. Each candidate will be required to undertake 500 pages additional self-study in advance prior to commencement of the course. GNLU Centre for Public International Law GNLU Centre for Public International Law (CPIL) since 2010 strives to undertake research studies in various areas of public international law, law of the sea and maritime law. Centre envisaged the vision to become a leading nodal centre for excellence in areas of research, teaching and training on the subjects of public international law, law of the sea, and maritime law, at national and international levels. CPIL has conducted a large number training programs on international law. Mission Research: Policy oriented research and filling up the gap of quality research on the contemporary issues of public international law, law of the sea and maritime law. Teaching & Training: To provide forum for the discussion on research based teaching in the areas of public international law, law of the sea and maritime Law; to conduct and organise national and international training programs, seminars conferences, workshops of national and international importance on the subjects of international law, law of the sea and maritime law. GNLU and Maritime Law In the field of Maritime laws, GNLU has successfully conducted Global Maritime Security and Anti-Piracy Conference in 2011 and witnessed the presence of the delegates from 35 countries. GNLU has conducted number of training courses for the officers of Indian Navy, Indian Coast Guard, Police officers of different states, Reserve police forces and Maritimes Boards of different states. GNLU has also conducted the prestigious 2013 external program of Hague Academy of International law in November, 2013 on the theme of Stability and Change in the Law of the Sea: Challenges in the 21st Century. In 2014, 2015 & 2016 Maritime Academy dealt with global maritime issues and emerging challenges.
