Closed POD Planning Wayne Vaughn Mississippi State Department of Health Director of Health Protection wayne.vaughn@msdh.ms.gov

PLAN/ PREPARE/ PROTECT Protecting you and your Employees In a Public Health Emergency

Mass Dispensing/Vaccination Sites

POD Types Open PODs o o Drive thru PODs Enclosed facilities Closed PODs o 631 enrolled CPODs = o > 1 million

A CLOSED Point of Dispensing (POD) Site. This is a location that is operated by a private business for a specific population (i.e., its employees and their families). It is one of the two dispensing methods planned to deliver medication to 100 percent of the population within 24-36 hours. Theses PODs are NOT open to the public.

Benefits to your County A tremendous opportunity to combat the impact of a public health threat or emergency. You ll receive and dispense medications and or medical supplies directly to your employees and their families. Extra protection during a public health emergency.

How CLOSED Point of Dispensing (POD) Sites Fit into Planning Relief to Open POD Sites by reaching portions of the population independently. Long lines and public anxiety can be reduced and resources will be used more efficiently. Being a CLOSED site will help ensure your employees are protected, allowing them to continue working and/ or return to work more quickly.

Continue: Employees will feel secure in knowing that their employer is willing to take the extra mile to ensure that their families are taken care of in the event of a public health emergency. As your employees feel more confident in the steps you have taken to protect them they should feel an increased sense of commitment and loyalty.

Medical Personnel Required: A medical person (either physician or pharmacist) to provide oversight to the planning and dispensing effort Not required to be on-staff with the county or on-site during the event (just available for consultation when needed) An agreement between your county and the medical provider will be required, including a clear understanding of activation and service they are to provide during the emergency
