Cleveland St. Course Description PFCCS is a major resource for those interested in learning how to recognize critical illnesses and initiate care for the critically ill pediatric patient until PICU consultation or transfer. This is an ideal educational course for physicians and NP/PAs who work in the ED, pediatric ward and PCP offices. Target Audience This program is directed toward physicians, hospitalists, advanced practice nurses, transport teams, physician assistants and other healthcare professionals involved in pediatric critical care and emergency medicine. Purpose To prepare physicians, physician-assistants and nurse practitioners, for the first 24 hours of pediatric critical care until transferred or appropriate critical care consultation is obtained. To prepare non-intensivists to manage the acute deterioration of critically ill pediatric patients. To prepare pediatric, emergency medicine, and surgical house staff for pediatric critical care medicine. Objectives Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to: prioritize assessment needs for the critically ill or injured infant or child. select appropriate diagnostic tests. respond to significant changes in the unstable pediatric patient. recognize and initiate management of acute, life-threatening conditions. determine the need for expert consultation and/or patient transfer and the optimal methodology accomplishing patient transfer.
