Paul Bunyan 5 K Raffle Update The 22 nd annual Paul Bunyan Festival is rapidly approaching. It is scheduled for September 21-23. Our club s Five K ticket raffle will conclude at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 22 nd when we draw the lucky tickets to name this year s five $1`,000 prize winners. The over-the-counter ticket sales at Family Fare, the Farmer s Market and the Canoe Marathon Finish Line and individual sales have resulted in 858 tickets sold totaling $4,005. We have also collected $1,875 in sponsorships. Each year the over-the counter sales result in half of the ticket sales. With sales set for Neiman s Market in August and Family Fare in September we should continue to have good results. Our goal is to sell all 3,000 tickets. We are well below that with 2,098 yet to be sold. Tickets can be obtained from Lion Chuck, 739-8678. He ll have tickets for you on Thursday at the meeting. We continue to need all club members to be involved. This is our biggest fundraiser each year. Help us reach our goal! The cost of materials was $910. On July 25 th Lions Chuck, Bill Gaines, Dave and Tony tore down an existing ramp and built two 12 foot ramps with a platform for a cost of $870 for an Oscoda couple. White Cane Drive a Success The Oscoda Lions White Cane Drive was held on July 20 and 21. Thirty-eight Lions and Lioness members collected donations at five locations. A total of $3,015.23 was collected during the two day event, $2,543.26 to the Lions, $471.97 to the Lioness. Our top collector was Lion Bill Gaines who brought in $417.36. The date of this year s event was moved forward to the third weekend of July which allowed us to include summer visitors and summer residents. Warmer weather was also nice. Thanks go to Lion Julie who organized the drive. Special Lion Thoughts Lion Marilyn is recovering from a partial knee replacement. Lion Rick is recovering from pneumonia and infection. We wish both of them a return to good health.
