This Year s Theme Poster & Scripture Verse God s Word, Holy Communion, Prayer & Anointing Re-Dedicatory of Organ & Recital On Saturday, September 16th, following an abbreviated Saturday night service, we will rededicate our newly refurbished pipe organ. This rededication will start at 6:50 pm, and run 30-40 minutes. A reception will follow. The recital will feature Brian Becker on trumpet and include congregational song as well as performances of major organ works by both Dan Albrecht and Aaron Kortze. Thank you to everyone who helped with this project and made this milestone possible! The money raised will help bring our 115-year-old instrument up to date and the repairs made will keep it playing for years and decades to come. As our project nears its completion, we hope you will make plans to join in this celebration of the refurbishing of Immanuel s largest and oldest instrument, our 1902 Kilgen pipe organ! Immanuel students, faculty, staff and parents opened the 65th academic year of the school ministry in worship! Jesus at the Center! Eighth Grade Trip to Potosi Our 8th grade students, chaperones, and Mr. Schaefer will travel to the YMCA Camp in Potosi, Missouri for a week of team building activities. They will leave on Monday, September 4 and return to Belvidere on Friday, September 8. Our students look forward to the experiences of climbing the Alpine Tower, riding the zip line, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, spelunking (cave exploration), the Pine Pole Zip, and spending time with their classmates and camp counselors. As soon as the students get home, they want to turn around and go back. It is truly a week to remember and one that the students consider one of their favorite Immanuel memories. Reflections from Recruitment Director, Russ Balsman Peer Pressure? Who your children are surrounded by at school will have an effect you may not have considered. Parents might feel better if the Bible told us that good company improves bad. The reality is usually just the opposite. St. Paul reminds us that bad morals corrupt good company in I Corinthians. We are assuming he is writing to an adult congregation. Imagine what he would say to a group of young, impressionable children. Make no mistake; children will be exposed to bad company no matter what school they attend. In a Christian school, they will be less likely to be surrounded by negative influences. Source: 10 Reasons to Send Your Child to a Christian School ILS Volleyball Tournament Immanuel Lutheran School will host its 17th Annual Invitational Volleyball Tournament September 23-24. Sixteen teams will participate in the tournament, with many of them traveling in from the suburbs. We host a tournament at Immanuel to provide an opportunity for these Christian athletes to not only compete, but to also form new friendships. In addition the Lord has provided a beautiful campus with two gyms, a fellowship hall, and a prairie, the likes of which many of our guests have never seen. Many hands make this tournament happen. Thanks to Mr. Schaefer (Athletic Director) for the time spent organizing this event. We are always looking for volunteers ticket sellers, concessions stand workers, set-up, clean-up, crowd control, line judges, scorekeepers, and those who run the scoreboards. Are you available to help? Contact the school office at 815547-5346 for more information. Our concession stand is awesome so come for lunch or supper! Donations for the Silent & Live Auction Accepted in the School Office. 6
