No. 305 Squadron is committed to providing cadets with opportunities to further develop their leadership skills and other personal attributes with a view to increasing their level of responsibility commensurate with the AAFC Youth Development Philosophy. AIM 2. The aim of this instruction is to outline the requirements for a cadet to be eligible for consideration to attend an AAFC promotion course or for promotion to Cadet Flight Sergeant. AUTHORITY 3. The authority for the issue of this instruction is the Commanding Officer, No. 305 Squadron, Australian Air Force Cadets (CO 305SQN). SCOPE 4. This instruction applies to all cadets posted to No. 305 Squadron. PRE-COURSE TRAINING 5. All cadets seeking to attend an AAFC promotion course must attend each of the following 305SQN activities. a. Promotion Training Theory Day (PTTD). PTTDs are run biannually in Term I and Term III and include instruction on material required prior to attendance at a PTPD. b. Promotion Training Practical Day (PTPD). PTPDs run twice in each of Terms II and IV. All promotion course candidates must attend both of the PTPDs in the term prior to the promotion courses they have applied to attend. 6. Promotion training is taught in stages relevant to each of the AAFC promotion courses, i.e. JNCO, SNCO, CWOFF and CUO. The JNCO content delivered on the PTTDs and PTPD is open to all Leading Cadets, regardless of whether they intend to apply for attendance at a JNCO promotion course or not.

2 7. The practical components of the PTPD are treated as assessments and contribute towards the Commanding Officer s decision on which candidates applications to accept. These assessments will include: a. General Service Knowledge (SK). b. Instruction Technique Lesson (10 Minute) (IT). c. Command and Control (C&C). d. Personal Drill Assessment (PDA). e. Mutual Instruction (MI) [SNCO and CWOFF Candidates only]. PROMOTION TO CADET CORPORAL 8. Prior to a LCDT attending a JNCO promotion course, they must meet all of the 9. PROMOTION TO CADET SERGEANT 11. Prior to a CCPL attending a SNCO promotion course, they must meet all of the 12. In addition, Cadet Corporals must meet the following requirements. a. Attendance at a minimum of 75% of Squadron weekly parade nights during the

3 c. Hold a current First Aid certificate. d. Regularly acted as a primary or secondary instructor to Recruit, Basic or Proficiency stage. e. Held a Squadron appointment during the previous six months. f. Fulfilled the role of Section Commander on a Squadron Bivouac. g. Completed the SNCO SK, IT, C&C, PDA and MI assessments on a PTPD. PROMOTION TO CADET FLIGHT SERGEANT 13. Prior to promotion to CFSGT, a CSGT must meet all of the eligibility criteria contained in the Manual of Ground Training (MoGT). 14. In addition, Cadet Sergeants must meet the following requirements: a. Attendance at a minimum of 75% of Squadron weekly parade nights during the c. Regularly acted as a primary instructor to Recruit, Basic, Proficiency or Advanced stage. d. Diligently performed their duties in their Squadron appointment during the previous six months. e. Hold a current First Aid certificate. 15. CSGTs seeking promotion to CFSGT must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the continuing success of the Squadron. To do this, aspirational CSGTs must be able to provide details of how they have, through a project or otherwise, made an improvement to the operation of the Squadron in some way. PROMOTION TO CADET WARRANT OFFICER 15. Prior to a SNCO attending a CWOFF promotion course, they must meet all of the 16. In addition, SNCOs must meet the following requirements. a. Attendance at a minimum of 85% of Squadron weekly parade nights during the

4 c. Attendance at a minimum of two Wing or National camps (such as GSTs, flying/gliding, abseiling, aeromodelling) with duration of at least five days. This must include attendance at a GST camp and attendance at a camp as an NCO. Attendance at a promotion course is not considered acceptable for this requirement. d. Hold a current First Aid certificate. e. Regularly acted as a primary instructor to Recruit, Basic, Proficiency or Advanced stage. This is to include the writing and administration of a subject examination. f. Frequently taught drill and ceremonial to Recruit, Basic or Proficiency stage. g. Held a Squadron appointment during the previous six months. h. Fulfilled a Headquarters role on a Squadron Bivouac. i. Completed the CWOFF SK, IT, C&C, PDA and MI assessments on a PTPD. 17. SNCOs seeking promotion to CWOFF must be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding of the theoretical concepts of leadership and instructional technique. 18. SNCOs seeking promotion to CWOFF must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the continuing success of the Squadron. To do this, aspirational SNCOs must be able to provide details of how they have, through a project or otherwise, made an improvement to the operation of the Squadron in some way. PROMOTION TO CADET UNDER OFFICER 19. Prior to a SNCO attending a CUO promotion course, they must meet all of the 20. In addition, SNCOs must meet the following requirements. a. Attendance at a minimum of 85% of Squadron weekly parade nights during the c. SNCOs seeking promotion to CUO must be able to demonstrate a high level of understanding of the theoretical concepts of leadership and instructional technique. 22. SNCOs seeking promotion to CUO must be able to demonstrate their commitment to the continuing success of the Squadron. To do this, aspirational SNCOs must be able to provide details of how they have, through a project or otherwise, made an improvement to the operation of the Squadron in some way. APPLICATION FOR PROMOTION 23. All cadets seeking promotion to CCPL, CSGT, CFSGT, CWOFF or CUO must complete an application form. For those cadets seeking to attend a promotion course, promotion applications will be called for by the CO during the first week of Terms I and III in the lead up to the summer and winter courses respectively. 24. Applications for cadets seeking promotion to CFSGT, CWOFF or CUO must be accompanied by a minute explaining how the applicant meets the criteria outlined in this SI.
