Meeting Minutes August 9, 2016 Officers in Attendance President Tracy Owen Vice-President Cedar Wolf Secretary Benjamin Mapes Treasurer Malinda Reese See sign-in sheet for general attendance Officer Reports Membership Chair, spread the word about the chapter on social media. We have about 77 dues-paying members (as of June), over 615 people on the email distribution list. Spread the word! We welcome volunteers of all kinds. Use Linkedin, facebook, twitter, etc. EWB-USA web site is being re-done. Treasurer Account balances as of about June 30: o General Account $9,847 o Ecuador $12,811 o Madagascar $15,824 o Togo $5,890 what to do about this balance? o Tanzania $6,560 o EWB USA is changing their accounting system such that there will no longer be individual project accounts. There will just be one chapter account and it will be up to the chapter treasurer to track project balances, if the chapter wants to do it this way. o Madagascar project is asking if it would be possible to get a loan of $3-5000 from the general account in order to cover upcoming travel in November. Malinda says we have about $8800 in the general account, after expected disbursements. 1

Fundraising o o Jen Cook is leaving Colorado and thus the Chapter and we need a new fundraising chair. Brews for Tanzania is Friday Sept 9, 6-9 pm at Factotum Brewhouse. o EWBs new fundraising program is called Classy and chapters and projects should set up Classy pages for fundraising. o Film Festival Call for Entries has gone out, deadline was March 31 st,, now extended to end of June. To be included in next EWB-USA newsletter. Contact Cedar Wolf for info, he is looking to form a team for the film festival. Still possible to use Poverty, Inc. as screening material. Outreach o Jim Gusek is available to give presentations about EWB, feel free to ask. 2

Project updates Ecuador Guantugloma project update John Jankousky and Johanna Bentley gave a presentation. Community is about 60 houses, about 300 people. About 100% done, 8000m pipe, 13 tanks (2,000 L) and one 20,000 L tank, planning one more trip in 2017 for monitoring. Been going here for 3 years. 55 of 55 houses currently have potable water. Ecuador Malingua Pamba - trying to put together a trip for November. Ecuador irrigation team no current update. Ecuador Erosion Control Update from Laura Backus: Madagascar project update Team is analyzing alternatives, likely to become a well project (12) in Anosimparihy (2500 people). Working with Rotary Clubs for funding. Next trip planned for implementation in November, probably 2 wells. Sending 2 teams of 2 people each. Looking for travel team members and need to get funding. Togo project update none. Chris Fahlin working to close the project. Everything is on hold until we hear from EWB-USA. Tanzania Four person team had very successful assessment trip. Signed MOU with community, gathered technical data. Now moving into alternatives analysis and design. 3

New Business DU College of Engineering is moving! Stay tuned to chapter email updates to make sure you know where the chapter and project meetings are from now on! EWB USA has a new system to file reports called PAWS. Tracy highly recommends watching the PAWS webinar to learn about it. Russ Zick is in Kosovo for 3 months as part of EWBs Engineering Service Corps. They are looking for more volunteers (6 or more). Email Tracy if interested. CU Boulder is looking for a mentor for a project in Paraguay, probably for a water project. Contact Cedar Wolf for details. EWB USA is looking for Responsible Engineer in Charge (REIC) for roofing project, contact Cedar Wolf. Mountain Region Conference is October 14-16 in Las Vegas. Early bird tickets are on sale ($150). EWB-USA has openings for 2-3 month internships in Bolivia for Spanish-speaking members. Contact Cedar Wolf if interested.
