Seed Production/ Multiplication Programme: The Department is taking a new step towards Production/Multiplication of good quality seeds especially Rice variety CAU-R1 from this year at selected locations. In this connection, State seed Certification Agency for Mizoram State was reconstituted on Dt.28.5.2015. For successful implementation of Seed Production/Multiplication Programme, Seed Inspectors for every District were designated on Dt.22.6.2015. C. Sensitization programme on Seed production/multiplication for designated seed inspectors was successfully conducted on Dt.26.6.2015 in the Committee room of Directorate of Agriculture, Mizoram, Aizawl.

D. SEED LAW ENFORCEMENT: i) Establishment of State Seed Certification Agency: Under the provision of Section 8 of the Seed Act, 1966 the State Seed Certification Agency for Mizoram was established on 17 th September, 1991. The constitution of members was revised from time to time. ii) Appointment of Licensing Authority for Implementation of the Seeds (Control) Order, 1983: The Director of Agriculture (Crop Husbandry), Mizoram, Aizawl was appointed as the Licensing Authority for Implementation of the Seeds (Control) Order, 1983 for the entire state of Mizoram on 28 th January, 2008. iii) Appointment of Appellate Authority: Secretary/Commissioner/Principal Secretary, Agriculture Department, Mizoram was appointed as Appellate Authority on 31 st January, 2008. iv) Appointment of Seed Analyst: Seed Analyst, State Seed Testing Laboratory, Directorate of Agriculture, Mizoram was appointed on 5 th January, 2007 for the whole State of Mizoram for implementation of the duties of Seed Analyst as specified in Part-IX, clause 21, Sub-clause 1-4 of the Seed Rules, 1968.

v) Appointment of Seed Inspectors for all the Districts of Mizoram: Appointment of officers under Agriculture Department as Seed Inspectors for every District of Mizoram was made which is revised as and when necessary. vi) Establishment of Seed Testing Laboratory: State Seed Testing Laboratory under Agriculture Department, Mizoram was established on 27 th October, 1989. Seeds of various crops to be procured by the Department are first tested for their quality like purity, germination, moisture content, seed health etc. Depending on the seed test result, seeds which conform to the Indian Minimum Seed Certification Standard only can be procured/ accepted for further distribution to the farmers.
