Headquarters March 2018 This month you will receive TWO sets of bulletins. The first set will be the bulletin and the second will be the report forms. I had to mail two sets because there were so many pages. It is getting that time of year when you should be getting ready to start having your unit elections. Once your elections have been completed, please return the form (included in the March bulletins) listing your Unit officers. This list is used to make the mailing list for the monthly bulletins. I also use this list to help me communicate with the Units. Also, included in the March bulletins is the UNIT DUES FOR 2019 form. This form MUST be completed and returned to Department Headquarters on or before April 30, 2018. Preferably before the 30 th. This form is used to show the person in the Unit that is to receive the membership renewals and also lists how much your Unit dues are. If I do not receive this form back from you then I cannot update the address of the person who is suppose to receive the renewals. National has set a deadline of April 6, 2018 for changes to names, address, etc. They will start printing the 2019 membership cards after that date. This means that whatever the address, name, etc is showing on April 7, 2018, that is what will be on your 2019 membership card. Operating assessments are due by March 31, 2018. $25.00 + $0.25 per senior member as of 12-31 If you have an ALA MIS log in ID for your unit, you have received an invoice. Please pay your invoice. The Department has to pay whether you use it or not. It is $10 per ID, per Unit. If you do not have an ID and would like one, all you need to do is to send me your unit #, your name, your member ID #, and your e-mail address. It is simple as that. It is a great way to keep up with your unit membership. In this month s bulletins I have included the housing form for the Spring Conference. The deadline for housing registration is listed on the form. Hope to see you all in Florence Y all!!! Jennifer

Legislative At this time President Patty, and I, along with a great group of Auxiliary and Legionnaire advocates are preparing to go to Washington, DC to speak with Senators McConnell and Rand, plus several Congressmen about veteran s issues. What is my favorite phrase this year? Advocate, advocate, advocate! Keep checking for action alerts and taking action, plus, don t forget to send me copies of any correspondence you may have with an elected official. If you have your Mayor for a dinner or are at a JECVO meeting, or anything along those lines, please let me know. For instance, did your unit or post do anything for President s Day? Let me know. Jerilynn Kabel Chairman

Americanism Bulletin March 2018 Thank you for all your support for our Americanism program. I want to remind each unit that the deadline is approaching for the Americanism Essay contest. Please ensure those are sent to me as soon as possible. Thank you for working with our youth, giving them opportunities to express themselves while learning about patriotism. Please ensure we are setting the example as you fly your American flag both at home and elsewhere. Ensure your flag is in good condition and gently remind others if their flag needs to be replaced. Many local elections will be going on over the next few months. Encourage your community members to get out to vote and, if possible, work the polling stations or be transportation for those trying to get to the polls. I look forward to seeing as many of you as come be there at Spring Conference. Lots of good information will be provided and it is the perfect time to ask questions about the programs. Again, thank you very much. Bonita Robey Department of Kentucky Americanism Chairman 2017-2018

Department of Kentucky Strategic Planning What is the definition of Strategic Planning? Strategic planning is an organization's process of defining its strategy, or direction, and making decisions on allocating its resources to pursue this strategy. The National American Legion Auxiliary started this process three years ago. We are working to develop our plan. This will help us move with the National organization while growing and educating our members on all levels of the organization. How does it affect you? Our goal is to develop initiatives that help us have consistency, understanding of what it is and means to be a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, as well as educate all of us on our programs. Remember nothing stays the same. Change is inevitable. The goals are design to grow each of us, to strengthen us as individuals, units, districts and ultimately our department. What is your role? Give your opinion. Practice the various things you learn. Attend district meetings, conference and conventions where you can learn from others and help carry that information back to your unit. You are all a part of the Department team by being a member of the Department of Kentucky. How can you help? As the teams are developing to lead each effort, contact information will be made available to everyone. If you have an idea or suggestion, reach out to a member of that team. Volunteer to be a part of the team. Help to educate our juniors with what you are learning. Invite them to offer their opinions. See a theme? Every member of the Department of Kentucky has something to offer and a part to play as WE work to move US to the next level. We have opted to use the goals set by the National American Legion Auxiliary. This helps us follow their lead. However, our strategic initiatives under each goal will reflect the needs of Kentucky. They don t stay stagnate. We may start out in one direction and realize we need to go another and that is ok. That is growth. At Spring Conference, we will be asking the Executive Board for permission to officially form our team and to allow us to submit our goals and initiatives to National. I am enclosing an outline that is subject change to help each member get an idea of what we are proposing. There are some things that you will see that you may have been doing in your unit or district. We want to know that. The fact that we are OFFICIALLY starting late does not mean we have not actually done work towards these goals. Again, the next page will have the goals on it but the strategies are subject to change. This will serve to aid everyone in understanding as this is going to be front and center as we hit the ground running. Should you have questions, for now contact me. It is much easier via email. If you don t have email then leave a message on my cell and I will get back with you. Bonita Robey bcrobey@gmail.com (270) 893-1126

Betty Butler NEC Dept. of Ky. March 2018 Bulletin I hope everyone had a Happy New Year. Now is the time to get back on track with your National Security Program. I know all of the Units are doing something that falls under this program. I want to hear about it. I did receive a total of 9 Mid-year reports from Unit 4, 34, 85, 113,116, 180, 203, 219 and 301. A couple of them didn t say anything other than no report at this time. Those that sent in reports are clipping coupons and sending them overseas. One Unit has sent coupons out since May 1 st totaling over $189,000.00 in value! This is something every Unit could be doing. Just imagine how much this is helping the military families overseas. One group of middle school students makes cards to go in the care packages that are sent to Troops. From what I understand, these packages don t last very long since they share them with the others in their platoon. This also boosts their morale even though it may only be for a day or two. Another Unit is working with two Junior ROTC units at two different high schools helping them with whatever they can do for them in this program. As you can see, these are just a few examples of things that can be done under the National Security Program. Let s have more reporting at the end of the year. Go Kentucky!! Note: I will have a Form to fill out for year end reporting but a narrative would also be very welcomed to go with it so I can report everything we do to the Southern Division Vice Chairman and the National Chairman. If you have any questions, please contact me at: 502-600-1480. Keep praying for our Troops overseas and here at Home. Betty Butler

NATIONAL SECURITY REPORT FORM In an effort to get more Units to report on what they have done this past year under the National Security Program, please complete the following questionnaire: How many blue or gold star banners where given out: Did your Unit send care packages overseas? If so, how many and the total amount of money spent: Does your Unit clip coupons to send overseas? If so, dollar amount sent Have you participated in a Welcome Home Troops event? Do you have a POW/MIA table at all meetings and/or events? How many members have participated in a CERT course? Has your Unit honored any ROTC or JROTC cadets with certificates or dinners? Explain: Has any of your members signed up for the Legislative Alerts? Please provide any other information or events that you have done to support our active military personnel and/or their families Please return completed form to: Betty Butler 1102 Alton Station Rd. Lawrenceburg, Ky. 40342 E-mail: butiu20@aol.com DEADLINE IS NO LATER THAN APRIL 1st

Children & Youth 2017-2018 Hello ladies! It was great seeing all of you at Winter Conference even though I was having a bit of trouble walking! We are still working on fixing that but that doesn t keep me from finding ways to help our children. In the last two weeks, there has been approximately $1,200 worth of clothes and school supplies sent to District 7 and a few of our veterans and other volunteers went to two elementary school with over 100 donated ties and taught the 5 th grader boys how to tie them in preparation for their graduation. I want to remind everyone in or close to the Louisville area at on April 22, 2018 there will be a Military Children Appreciation celebration in observance of Children and Youth month. I will have more specifics in the next bulletin with times and exact location. I am requesting that each unit please provide 3-5 volunteers to help that day. Please encourage your unit members to support this event. Please contact me if you want more information. Unless you are collecting them for someone else, please continue to save the plastic bottle caps. These caps are recycled into Buddy Benches which are designed to let the other children know that the child on the bench is in need of a buddy. You can bring those along with the baby items needed for the diapers bags that are going to Ft. Campbell's maternity ward. If you have a child you would like to nominate for the Good Deed Award, please make sure that is submitted by April 1 st. I also want to remind everyone the year end reports are due April 1 st. Child Welfare Auxiliary Members I hope all the Units are doing their piggy banks and sending the money to Jennifer. Don t forget to make the check out to ALA Dept of KY, and in the memo make sure you put CHILD WELFARE so she knows where it is to go. 2018 Membership Feb -Mar Shaking the ALA Membership Tree We are heading into March and the Mystery awards are coming up. The first reveal is to try and entice getting more member blooms on our Family Tree as we have fallen slightly behind last year, so we are going to focus on getting those last renewals in and some new leaves. So between Feb 1 st and April 1 st we will look at membership turned in. A unit only qualifies for 1 of the following three drawings. For all units that turn in two members you will be entered into a gift card drawing. For all units that turn in 5 members you will be in a higher gift card drawing. For all units that turn in 10 or more members you will be in a higher gift card drawing. We will be pulling out 5 of the first level, 3 of the 2 nd level and 2 of the third level. If we do not have enough to qualify for any of the levels, we will use the gift cards for other mystery awards. Each pull with include 2 cards, one for the president and one for the membership chair to use as they wish. Remember all assessments will need to be paid. Both VA&R and Operating (see list included of who has paid which assessments). Spring conference is going to be more of a fun membership conference with prizes available. Hint Hint Hint: Knowing this year s membership packet and bulletin info could come in handy for some mystery prizes. Lets tie in leadership and maybe some Auxiliary History. We are still working on some fun mystery prizes. Attached are the 2 National membership awards members could qualify for. They have the instructions on them. It s the recruit 5 and Silver Brigade. They were included in your membership packets. Keep working your membership programs and we hope to see you in April for Spring Conference. If an auxiliary member has been nice to you recently, please submit their names to me with a brief description of how they were nice or made you feel good. You can email, or just hand deliver to me at Spring Conference. I want to put those feel good stories in a bulletin and share how awesome we can be.
