MEYMANN Congratulations to Father Shine on his 60th anniversary to the priesthood! St. John the Baptist Parish has been blessed by his presence for 29 of his years as a priest. We will celebrate with Father Shine at the 1:00 p.m. Sunday Mass this weekend, with a reception following in the cafeteria. God bless you, Father Shine! Relay for Life is just around the corner. Survivors of cancer, those currently fighting the disease, families, and friends are welcome to take part in our annual Relay on Tuesday. The morning is a respectful time for honoring all in this battle. Parents please send Popsicle money again with students in grades one and two on Monday, as we ran out of popsicles today and we want to put cancer on ice. I have received quite a few teacher requests in recent weeks, and feel a need to address this process with families. What do we want in a classroom? We need a balanced ratio of boys and girls. We want a heterogeneous classroom consisting of a group of children who may work together at the above average level, on grade level, and those perhaps needing a little more remediation. We hope everyone has at least one good friend in their class, and finally, we want an overall group of children who can work well together, without too much conflict. In some cases, some children need to be grouped together to benefit from inclusive supports, related to special education. I have great confidence in all of our teachers ability to instruct and to know how their students learn best and get along with others. The current teachers work very hard to group the children into classrooms, reflecting the needs stated above, and parental requests can truly undermine all our careful planning. Knowing how well you understand your own children, I truly appreciate any special information you care to share about their learning or the types of environments in which you ve seen them really shine, but simply requesting specific teachers is not always in the best interest of your own child or others. Teachers attempt to consider the children s personalities, as well as abilities, when forming class lists. Please understand we are trying to provide a balanced classroom experience for everyone and may not always be able to honor your request of a specific teacher. Also, keep in mind the best teacher for one of your older children may not necessarily be the best teacher for a younger brother or sister. As always, please feel free to communicate your specific ideas to this year s teacher or me, but please appreciate it is not always possible to honor requests for specific teachers. Summer Tutoring Are you looking for someone to tutor your child this summer? Katie Pahls, Intervention Specialist in training, will be available this summer. If interested, please contact her at 513-532-8387.

A Note from Miss Kist.. Go Ennounce, for current 8th Graders In class we have been piloting a social media curriculum with 8th grade, with the potential to order for next year. Besides lessons in class, students have access to and have created their own social media profile on GoEnnounce (similar to Facebook, LinkedIN), in order to log their accomplishments moving forward. Go Ennounce is secure, and students have registered their accounts using their School Google email address and password. I m told students are able to keep their profile active throughout high school. Only students are able to invite followers to view their page. Ask your 8th grader to invite you to follow them!
