QRI SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2018 General Information The QRI Scholarship Awards offer over $20,000 worth of grants to the children and grandchildren of members who demonstrate outstanding achievement in the categories of academia, the arts and sports. These Awards provide a great opportunity to celebrate the achievements of the younger generation. APPLICATIONS OPEN ON 1 ST MARCH AND CLOSE AT 4PM, 29 TH JUNE 2018 4 x $2,000 Major Academic Scholarships The Major Academic award will be presented to the recipient in recognition of their previous outstanding academic achievements, clearly defined future academic goals, and aspirations to continue in their line of study. This award is designed to help offset future academic expenses including tuition, educational equipment, special courses and more. This scholarship prize is open to applicants in Year 12 (or equivalent), University, TAFE or equivalent recognised academic institutions, up to the age of 25 inclusive. 4 x $1,000 Minor Academic Scholarships The Minor Academic award will be presented to the recipient in recognition of previous outstanding academic achievements, future academic goals and aspirations to continue in their line of study. This will help offset future academic expenses including tuition, educational equipment, special courses and more. This scholarship prize is open to applicants aged between 11 (Year 7) and 16 inclusive (up to and including year 11 of secondary school or TAFE equivalent). 4 x $1,000 Sporting Scholarships The Sporting Scholarship award will be presented to recognise outstanding achievement in sports, such as Queensland and/or Australian representation. This award is open to applicants aged 5 25 inclusive. 2 x $1,000 Arts Scholarships The Arts Scholarship award will be presented to acknowledge those who have had continued outstanding achievement in the fields of visual and/or the performing arts. This award is open to applicants aged 5 25 inclusive. 4 x $500 Encouragement Awards Winners of this award will be selected from entrants in any of the above Scholarship categories. The Encouragement award is designed to encourage those who have shown potential in any of the above categories.
Awards 2018 Scholarship Awards 2018 Eligibility for an Award You must be a dependent child or grandchild (up to 25 years of age) of a financial, full fee paying QRI Member The QRI member must have been a fee-paying member for a minimum of 12 months prior to application, with a membership class of Active, Associate or Retired You must have not received any award (other than Encouragement) in the QRI Scholarship fund scheme in the past two years (2016 and 2017) Recipients of QRI Scholarship Encouragement Awards in past years are eligible to apply Ineligibility for an Award Nieces and nephews of QRI members are ineligible Children or Grandchildren of Senior class & Corporate class members are ineligible Previous winners of the Major Academic Award are ineligible to apply for current or future Major Academic Awards Applicants who have won any prize category (excluding an Encouragement Award) in the QRI Scholarship fund during the past two years (2016 and 2017) are ineligible Judging A panel of judges from the QRI State Management Committee select the successful applications. The judges look for the following criteria: personal statement addressing each question in a logical flow highlighting their past achievements, future goals, display passion in their chosen category, extracurricular activities and supporting statements from referees. The judges decision is final and no correspondence will be entered into. All applicants will be notified of the judges decision in writing. Disbursement of Scholarship Awards The Major Academic Scholarship is aimed at helping to offset costs associated with educational expenses and as such may not be paid in a cash lump sum but rather be paid direct to educational providers, or towards educational equipment such as laptops, computers, printers and text books. The Minor Academic Scholarship, Sporting Scholarship, Arts Scholarship, and Encouragement Awards will be presented to the winners in the form of a cheque payment. KEY DATES Open date for applications: Thursday 1st March 2018 Closing date: Friday 29th June 2018 Full application(s) must be received in hard copy at the QRI State Office by 4pm on Friday 29th June 2018. Applications will be assessed throughout July and August, a judging panel will then select the winners. Applicants will be contacted by QRI Lifestyle in early September. The Award Ceremony will be held in late September 2018. QRI SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2018 Terms & Conditions Awards 2018 Scholarship Awards 2018 TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR QRI SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS 2018 By entering the QRI scholarship fund promotion ( the promotion ), you are agreeing to the following terms and conditions: 1. Standard terms 1.1 Information on prizes and how to enter form part of the promotion terms and conditions. 1.2 Entry into the promotion deems acceptance of the promotion terms and conditions. 2. Promoter s details 2.1 The promoter is QRI Lifestyle, (ABN 40 342 992 636) of Level 2, 131 Leichhardt Street, Spring Hill QLD 4000. 3. Who can enter 3.1 Entry is open to the children or grandchildren of financial, full-fee paying members of QRI lifestyle. 3.2 The QRI member must have been a full fee-paying member for a minimum of 12 months prior to application, with a membership class of Active, Associate or Retired 3.3 Previous recipients of Encouragement Awards are eligible to re-enter. 3.4 Previous unsuccessful applicants are eligible to re-enter 3.5 There is a waiting period of 2 years for previous winners who wish to re-enter 3.6 The waiting period for the 2018 round of Scholarship Awards applies to any winners in the 2016 and 2017 Scholarship Awards 3.7 Previous recipients (prior to 2016 Scholarships) of Minor Academic, Sports and Arts awards can re-enter and apply for any category, provided they satisfy the 2 year waiting period. 3.8 Previous recipients (prior to 2016 Scholarships) of Major Academic Awards can apply for other award categories only, provided they satisfy the 2 year waiting period. 4. Who cannot enter (ineligibility) 4.1 Applicants who have won any prize category (excluding an Encouragement Award) in the QRI scholarship fund during the past two years (2016 and 2017) are ineligible to enter. 4.2 Nieces and nephews of QRI members are ineligible to enter. 4.3 Previous winners of the Major Academic award are ineligible to apply for current or future Major Academic Awards. 4.4 Children or grandchildren of Corporate or Senior class members are ineligible to enter 5. How to enter 5.1 The competition commences on 1st March 2018. To be valid - entries must be received in hard copy, presented in a folder, at the QRI lifestyle head office by 4pm on Friday June 29th, 2018 ( promotion period ). All entries must be received via the relevant application form found at www.qri.com.au or by phoning 07 3036 0888. 5.2 In order to enter, QRI members must nominate a boy or girl, aged between 5-25 years inclusive (applicant s age must be within the age cut-off for the award applied for). The applicant must compose and submit an answer to the promotional questions. The entry must also include the QRI member s name, daytime contact telephone number (including STD area code), address, the age and name of the applicant, the name of the applicant s parent or guardian (if applicable), daytime contact telephone number (including STD area code) and address for the applicant s parent or guardian and a contact email address. 5.3 The entries will be judged by a panel of judges appointed by the promoter. 5.4 18 Prizes ( the winner/s ) will be selected by the panel. 5.5 The winners will be chosen from the applicants whose entry fulfils the entry criteria and are judged as being the most worthy from the entries received. 5.6 Entries must be: (a) the original independent creation of the applicant; (b) free from any claims, including copyright or trademark claims, by other parties; 5.7 Entries are limited to one per applicant per category 5.8 Each applicant is only able to receive one award 5.8 Entries will not be accepted via phone or SMS or email. 5.9 Entries must be received in accordance with clause 5.1. 5.10 Nominating QRI members (if they are the grandparent) must obtain the prior permission of the applicant s parent or guardian over the age of 18 to enter them in the promotion. 5.11 The written personal reference, as part of the application, must not be from a parent/guardian or other family member. 5.12 The application must be submitted complete, addressing each criteria as outlined for the specific award. Incomplete applications will not be judged. 6. Prizes 6.1 There are 18 prizes. 6.2 The Scholarships consist of: A) 4 x $2,000 Major Academic Scholarships B) 4 x $1000 Minor Academic Scholarships C) 4 x $1,000 Sporting Scholarships D) 2 x $1,000 Arts Scholarships F) 4 x $500 encouragement awards which will be selected from entries not successful in the above categories. 6.3 The winners of the Major Academic scholarship agree to liaise with QRI lifestyle, on an annual basis for two (2) years following the receipt of their award, to provide a progress statement of their studies and career progression. The written material provided by the winners of the major academic scholarship category may be published in QRI s marketing colateral, and used in conjunction with future scholarship awards and presentation events. 6.4 The winners and award recipients of all categories and their companions agree to participate and co-operate as required in all editorial activities relating to the competition, including but not limited to being interviewed and photographed. The winners and their companions grant the promoters a perpetual and non-exclusive licence to use such footage and photographs in all media worldwide and the winner and his or her companions will not be entitled to any fee for such use of footage and photographs. 6.5 Prizes are non-transferable and the promoter reserves the right to provide the prize in form of payment for expenses related to the scholarship rather than cash. 6.6 The distribution of the 18 prizes will be at the discretion of the judging panel, pending the quality of the applications and entries received by the due date. The judging panel reserves the right to amend or adjust the number of prizes per category depending on the circumstances. 7. Determination and notification of winner 7.1 All entries completed and submitted in accordance with these terms and conditions will be judged by the appointed judging panel during the months of July/August 2018. 7.2 There is no element of chance in the judging of the promotion or determination of the winners. 7.3 The winners will be notified by telephone and letter. 7.4 The judges decision is final and the promoter and judges will not enter into correspondence regarding the result. 7.5 The promoter reserves the right to refuse to allow the winner to take part in any or all aspects of the prize, if the promoters determine, in their absolute discretion, that the winner is not in the mental or physical condition necessary to be able to safely participate in the prize. It is a condition of accepting the prize that the winner s parent or guardian may be required to sign a legal release in a form determined by the promoters in their absolute discretion. 8. No liability 8.1 The promoter, their related bodies corporate and associated agencies and companies associated with this promotion take no responsibility for late, lost or misdirected mail. 8.2 The promoter, their related bodies corporate and their associated agencies and companies associated with this promotion will not be liable for any misadventure, accident, injury, loss or claim that may occur: (A) whilst undertaking any travel won on or connected with their entry into the promotion; or (B) in the participation in any prize; or (C) as a consequence of late, lost or misdirected mail; or (D) Due to the broadcast of any program relating to the competition or the publication of any material, including any statements made by any compere, staff member, journalist, other entrants or any other person; or 10 Major Academic Scholarship Application Form
Awards 2018 Scholarship Awards 2018 (E) Due to circumstances outside the reasonable control of the promoters, their related bodies corporate and their associated agencies and companies associated with this promotion; or (F) In relation to failure of an online entry to be received by the promoters on account of technical problems or traffic congestion; or (G) due to circumstances beyond the promoter s reasonable control. 8.3 In the case of the intervention of any outside act, agent or event which prevents or significantly hinders the promoter s ability to proceed with the competition on the dates and in the manner described in these terms and conditions, including but not limited to vandalism, power failures, tempests, natural disasters, acts of god, civil unrest, strike, war, act of terrorism, the promoter may in their absolute discretion cancel the promotion and recommence it from the start on the same conditions or such reasonable conditions providing for any unforeseen contingency. 8.4 The promoter reserves the right to amend or vary these terms and conditions at its sole discretion, orally or in writing, for the purpose of production requirements. 8.5 The promoter assumes no responsibility for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to, or alteration of entries, and reserves the right to take any action that may be available. 8.6 If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned, including due to infection by computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failures or any causes beyond the control of the promoter, which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness or integrity or proper conduct of this promotion, the promoter reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual who tampers with the entry process, take any action that may be available, and to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend the competition, subject to any written direction given under state regulation. 8.7 Prize winners may be required to seek independent legal advice as tax implications may arise through acceptance of the prize. 9. Privacy 9.1 All entries become the property of the promoter. All entries will be entered into a database and the promoter may use the applicant s and QRI member s names, details on their application and images for future promotional, marketing and publicity purposes in any media worldwide without notice and without any fee being paid unless otherwise advised by the entrant. By entering the promotion, applicants and QRI members confirm that they allow their details to be used for this purpose. If entrants do not consent to their details being used for future marketing purposes, the entrant should contact the promoter on their details set out above.
