J.R.Tucker High School Scholarship News January 2012 Tips for Scholarships: Read through this scholarship newsletter and note any scholarships for which you may qualify. Some scholarships will have an on-line application, others may be available in the Scholarship Drawer in the School Counseling Office. Some scholarships will require a transcript - 10 school days are required to process a transcript request. John R. Lillard VAOC Scholarship Program scholarship available to a Virginia high school senior with an unweighted GPA of 3.75 who is planning a career in the field of aviation. Applicants must be enrolled or accepted into an aviation related program at an accredited college. Additional information and applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: February 17, 2012. Willard G. Pentl Aviation Scholarship a $1000 scholarship will be awarded to a Virginia high school senior who is planning an aviation career in a non-engineering area. Additional information and applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: February 17. 2012. Lonnie E. Gailes Scholarship scholarship is available to a high school senior who attended Byrd Middle School for at least two year. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications are due to Mrs. Brown by 4:00pm on April 19, 2012. Ward Elementary School PTA scholarships are available to graduating seniors who previously attended Ward Elementary School. Virginia PTA numerous scholarships in the amounts of $1200 and $1000 are available to students planning to enter teaching or other youth-serving professions. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: March 1, 2012. Chesapeake District of Civitan International Annual Scholarship Fund - seeking applications from area high schools seniors to be considered for one of the several District awards which range between $1,000 and $1,500. Consideration is based on academic, extra-curricular and financial need. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: February 15, 2012. Virginia Council on the Status of Women 2012 STEM Essay Contest a $5000 scholarship is available to the winner of this essay contest. Armenian Education Center essay question competition which will award a $1000 scholarship to one Virginia high school student. Virginia Credit Union 25 scholarships available for qualified student members up to $2500 each for tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: March 30, 2012. Beverly Ziegler Scholarship a $1,000 scholarship is available to a Henrico County student. Student must have a GPA of 3.7 or higher and write an essay at least one page in length based on the student s plan for college and why they feel they should receive the scholarship. Allen Academic Scholarship fifteen $1500 scholarships are available to high school seniors in Central Virginia. This scholarship is designed to recognize students who, despite obstacles or special challenges, have achieved high standards of performance. Network of Enterprising Women Scholarship scholarship is available to a female high school student who has a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, has demonstrated a strong work ethic, and has exhibited strong leadership, citizenship, and participated in extracurricular activities. VSGA-VIP Scholarship scholarships available to Virginia high school students who have an interest in golf and will attend college within the commonwealth. Criteria for a scholarship are based on academic achievement, an interest in golf (skill level not important), character and financial need. For more information, visit www.vsga.org. Marybeth Graff Scholarship scholarship is intended to recognize a well-rounded Henrico County High School Senior who intends to pursue a career as a teacher in special education or a career supporting children with special needs. Richmond West Breakfast Lions Club Scholarship a $500/year scholarship is available for high school senior from Hermitage, Tucker, or Freeman who plans to continue their education after high school. Applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: April 29, 2012. WyzAnt Tutoring - $10,000 in total awards is available. The contest is open to high school sophomores, juniors and seniors. Interested students are asked to write a short essay about the most important lesson they have learned. National Multiple Sclerosis Society Central Virginia Chapter - scholarship available to high school students whose parent(s) have Multiple Sclerosis or who have Multiple Sclerosis themselves. HEF SCHOLARSHIPS Capital One Access Opportunity Scholarship - $5000 scholarship available to a JRT senior. Applicant must show academic improvement during senior year. Must begin senior year with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17 th. Baldacci Education Fund Scholarship $2000 scholarship available. Applicants must be planning to pursue further study or training beyond high school. Must have financial need and be ranked in upper half of class; minimum GPA 3.0. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17 th. Dr. Jo Lynne DeMary Scholarship - $1000 scholarship available. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited college or university with plans to teach math, science, exceptional education or ESL. Must have financial need and a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17 th. Governor James S. Gilmore, III Future Educator Scholarship - $2000 scholarship available. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited college/university with plans to teach in Henrico County. Must have financial need and be ranked in upper half of class; minimum GPA 3.0. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17th. Police Memorial Scholarship - $1000 scholarship available. Applicants must be planning to attend an accredited college/university with a major in the Criminal Justice field. Must have financial need and be ranked in upper half of class; minimum GPA 2.5. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17 th. Benjamin J. Lambert, III Scholarship Fund - $1000 scholarship available. Applicants must be planning to pursue further study or training beyond high school. Much have financial need and be ranked in upper half of class; minimum GPA 3.0. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 17 th. Investing in Excellence Scholarship - $1500 scholarship available. Applicants must be a current ESL student of participated in the ESL program during the past 5 years with plans to pursue further study or training beyond high school. Must have financial need with a minimum GPA of 2.75. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 27 th. TJ Berry Memorial Scholarship - $1000 scholarship available. Created for seniors pursuing a program of study leading to a career in criminal justice or law enforcement; pursuing college ROTC with plans for a military career; training for service professions such as nursing, forensic science, fore science, and emergency science. Minimum GPA 2.75. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 27 th.

Henrico School Librarians Learning for Life Scholarship - $1000 scholarship available. Created for graduates planning to pursue study or training beyond high school with evidence of a commitment to the promotion of libraries and literacy. Minimum GPA 2.5. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Completed applications due to Mrs. Brown by Friday, February 27 th. SCHOOL SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIPS these scholarships are for students who plan to apply to these specific colleges or universities WINSTON-SALEM STATE UNIVERSITY - $500 scholarship is available to a qualified area high school senior who plans to attend WSSU. Applications available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: April 1, 2012. VIRGINIA STATE UNIVERSITY scholarships up to the amount of $1500 each will be awarded to 2 or 3 qualified and deserving students who want to attend VSU. Applications are available in the Scholarship Drawer. Deadline: March 15, 2012. DAYTON UNIVERSITY scholarships are available to students who participate in Dayton s servant leadership video contest. Jones Honors Scholarship is a full tuition award offered to students from Virginia and North Carolina who demonstrate exemplary academic and extracurricular records. The Earl T. Jones Honors Scholarship is just one of many awards offered every years as part of the Johnson Scholarship Program. Students must rank in the top 10% of the class, have a minimum SAT score of 1250 (reading and math), and demonstrate qualities of scholarship, leadership, and potential for success.
