Lesson 2 Referencing Resources Assignments Assignment 1 - Case Study Review the Case Study on page 347 of the Pharmacy Technician Practice and Procedures textbook. Then answer the following question. Did the pharmacy technician choose the correct reference book? Why or why not? Assignment 2 - At Your Service Review the At Your Service scenario on page 348 of the Pharmacy Technician Practice and Procedures textbook. Then answer the following questions. 1. Where did AJ find this information? 2. Why is the need for information important? 3. Do all reference materials provide the same information? 4. Would you know where to find specific information if a similar situation occurred? Assignment 3 - Critical Thinking Answer each question after thinking carefully about your responses. 1. A patient enters the pharmacy and asks you to explain the difference between a proprietary drug and a non-proprietary drug. What would you tell them?

2. A patient has purchased a copy of The Pill Book. She is seeking additional information on her medications. She panics when she sees the list of adverse effects of the medications. Upon receiving the patient s history, Della called Janet and asked several questions regarding the medication. Discussion Questions 1. Is there a problem with the patient taking both of these medications? If so what is the problem and how should it be resolved? 4. It is December 31 and a young man brings in a prescription for 56 tablets of Flagyl 250 mg. He asks if he can drink while taking the medication. What do you tell him and why? 5. A patient brings in a prescription for naproxen 500 mg for pain from Dr. A. J. Shedlock. This patient is receiving Nexium from another physician. Is there a problem and, if so, what is it?

6.You have been asked to compound a prescription for a suspension but you have forgotten how to do it. What reference book would you use and why? 7. You are working in a hospital pharmacy and have been asked to prepare an IV of Drug X.
