MEMBERSHIP DEVELOPMENT SUPPORTS GRANT. REPORT ON IEEE COMSOC COLOMBIA MDSG EVENT IEEE COLCOM 2007 Date: September 27 and 28, 2007 Event: IEEE Colombian Communications Conference, COLCOM 2007. Place: Compensar Conventions Center, Bogotá D.C., Colombia No. of attendees: 150, of whom 40% were ComSoc members. Website: http://comsoc.org/colombia/colcom Background: The IEEE Colombian Communications Conference, COLCOM 2007, took place in Bogota D.C., Colombia, from September 26 to 29. The IEEE COLCOM 2007 had the goal of stimulate, promote and spread the development of the management, technological, normative and regulatory knowledge in the areas of communications in Colombia. The technical program allowed the academic and industrial community to show their research advances; it also opened a space for the discussion about the impact of the communications in our community. Proceedings: The IEEE Colombian Communications Conference, took place in Bogota D.C., Colombia. There were, approximately, 150 attendees, from this number, 40% were members of the IEEE Communications Society. The Conference had six lectures, two from international experts, D.Sc. Lajos Hanzo, Distinguished Lecturer from the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society and Ph.D. Tommaso Melodía, supported by the IEEE Communications Society. Four of the lectures were given by national lecturers, Ph.D. Yezid Donoso, Ph.D. Ricardo Llamosa, Ph.D. Nestor Pena and Ph.D. Andres Navarro. They share their research experience and their vision about the future of telecommunications in the country and in the world. The Conference also had 32 paper presentations, selected from a call for papers that was attended by research groups, universities and industry, who presented their last year research results. In addition to the Conference, three short tutorial courses were given. Short course Four MIMOs for Next Generation Multi-Carrier Systems, by D.Sc. Lajos Hanzo, given in the Saint Buenaventura University with 120 attendees. Short course Multi-objective optimization scheme for static and dynamic multicast flows, by Ph.D. Yezid Donoso, given in the Colombian Catholic University with 70 attendees. Short course New Topic of Wireless Multimedia Sensor Networks, by Ph.D. Tommaso Melodia, given in the Saint Thomas University, with 90 attendees. According to the evaluation from the attendees, the Conference, had a high technical level and a high level of satisfaction in the areas of infrastructure, logistics and general organization.
