Amos Aflac Scholarship was established to aid deserving individuals working full time in the Columbus/Phenix City area in their efforts to obtain their first academic degree. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage higher education among working citizens of Columbus/Phenix City area. Recipients will be designated, Paul S. Amos Scholars. Eligibility Successful applicants must: Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The Columbus State University Financial Aid Office must receive the results of the FAFSA by the scholarship application deadline. Be employed full time in the Columbus/Phenix City area. Be accepted as a regularly admitted student to Columbus State University (for complete admissions information, call 706-507-8800). Have a strong record of volunteer work in the community for the past three years. Have achieved a 2.75 cumulative college GPA. Entering freshman must have a high school GPA of 2.75 or better. Register for a minimum of three semester hours by the application deadline. Provide a supervisor s recommendation. Submit a completed scholarship application by the application deadline. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Expenses Covered Tuition and fees for a maximum of nine semester hours are covered. Any grant or scholarship awarded by Columbus State University will be applied toward tuition and fees first and will affect the amount of the Paul S. Amos Educational Scholarship. Core, Course and Institutional fees are not covered by Aflac funds and therefore must be paid by the student. Initial Application Procedures The scholarship year begins with the fall semester and runs for three consecutive semesters. A new application must be submitted in the fall of each academic year. A renewal application must be submitted for subsequent semesters within the academic year. Applications may be submitted at any time for the remainder of that scholarship year. Students will be notified of their award for that academic year by email. If your application is not approved, you may submit a written appeal to the Columbus State University Financial Aid Office. Only written appeals will be considered.
Deadlines To be considered for a particular academic semester, applications must be received in the Aflac Corporate Training Department by the following dates: Semester Date Summer 2011 April 25, 2011 Fall 2011 July 16, 2011 Spring 2011 December 1, 2011 Renewals Students must submit a Renewal Application each term within the academic year after the initial approval. The student will continue to receive the scholarship if: The renewal form is received by the appropriate deadline for each semester. The student maintains a 2.75 cumulative GPA and a 2.75 GPA each semester within the academic year. The student registers by the scholarship application deadline.
