We strongly encourage you as parents to get involved and help out with the Grad Activities. There are a lot of activities where help is needed and input is always appreciated. There will be a Grad Parent Information Evening Meeting on the evening of October 19 at 6:00 p.m. and we hope to see you there. Please check the school website regularly www.sardissecondary.ca or your child s www.myblueprint.ca (NEW) for updates. If you have any questions about a specific event, please contact the Sponsor Teacher for that function. Sponsor Teachers Sponsor Teachers are teachers who have volunteered their time to oversee a particular Grad event. If you are interested in helping them out please see them directly. Mrs. Lewis Community Dry Grad (June 28) Mr. Kushniryk Provincial Exams and Graduation Status Provincial exams are held at the end of each semester for courses that require them (February and June 2017). Some provincial exams have rewrite opportunities in November and April. The Provincial Exam schedule is available in your student agenda book, the school website calendar or on the government website www.bced.gov.bc.ca/ exams/student.htm. If you have any questions about the provincial exam for a specific course, please see the subject teacher. If you have questions about your graduation status please see your counselor. 3

Graduation Requirements At a Glance Requirements - What You Need to Graduate Subject Area 4 Minimum Credits Planning 10 4 a Language Arts 10 4 a Language Arts 11 4 a Language Arts 12 4 a Mathematics 10 4 a Mathematics 11 4 a Fine Arts and/or Applied Skills 10, 11 or 12 4 Social Studies 10 4 a Social Studies 11 or Civics 11 or FNS 12 4 Science 10 4 a Science 11 4 Physical Education 10 4 ELECTIVE COURSES Students must earn at least 28 elective credits (12 credits at the grade 12 level in addition to Language Arts 12) 48 credits Minimum Credits Additional Grade 10-12 28 GRADUATION TRANSITIONS Students must earn 4 credits for Graduation Transitions and do not graduate without it 4 OVERALL TOTAL 80 * Of the 80 credits for graduation, at least 16 must be at the Grade 12 level, including a Grade 12 Language Arts course. Others may be required or elective courses for PSIs. Community Dry Grad Date: June 28th Time: 11:00pm until 5:00am the next morning Location: Leisure Landing Sports Center Once the Banquet and Dance is over the night is just beginning!! There are plenty of fun things to do including casino games, character artists, games, bands, food and drinks. Grads should wear comfortable clothing and shoes as this is an activity packed event. Tickets will be available at the main window at the school office between April 10-May 19. *PLEASE NOTE: This is an event that is free of drugs and alcohol. Students that come to this event under the influence or in possession of drug or alcohol will not be admitted. There will be no refunds. All school rules apply. There are NO in and out privileges once you leave you will not be allowed back in! Grad Auction Date: April 6 Time: 5:00pm Grade 12 students are asked to bring in business and community donations in the form of product or gift certificates prior to the event. 50% of the value of the auctioned donation will go directly into the student s grad account to go towards reducing graduation tickets (prom, dry grad and grad cruise). The remainder of the funds raised go toward reducing graduation event costs and supporting student scholarships for our Grad Legacy Fund. Graduation Fee The Graduation fee of $65.00 covers the cost of grad gown, cap, tassel, stole, memento, one 5x7 grad photo and diploma, facility rental, and decorations. Guest Application for Grad Events Grads may apply to bring a guest to grad events (Grad Cruise, Grad Banquet and Dance, Dry Grad) however, the number of guests depend on space available. This is a school event, and the therefore the school reserves the right to deny guest applications. Middle school students will not be admitted. Approved guests, who are 19 years of age, must pay a $200.00 cash deposit at the office, which will be reimbursed after the event provided no incidents occur. Guest applications will be available at the office April 17, 2017. Students attending the April 12 GIM will be first in line to receive a guest application distributed at the GIM. Grad Information Meetings (GIM) There will be a series of Grad Information Meetings that inform the students of important dates and information regarding grad events. The GIMs are on the following dates: September 15, January 11; April 12; May 10. 9

Commencement Data Form This form is located on your myblueprint. It is important to fill it out and return it to the Main Office ASAP so we can order your graduation gown in the correct size. You need to write a brief statement which will be read as you cross the stage. This also ensures that your name (spelled correctly) appears in the Grad program. February 28th is the last date for submission. Commencement Tickets Graduates will receive 2 tickets for commencement. Tickets are picked up from the office May 29 June 2. Four (4) additional tickets may be requested via email between February 1 and April 30. After April 30, you will be put on the waitlist, and distribution will be limited to availability. Additional tickets cost $7 per ticket and payment must be made at the time of pickup. You must have a ticket to be admitted entrance. Grad Christmas Carol Ship Cruise Brand new event for the grads! Grads are invited to participate in the Annual Carol Ship Parade of Lights in Vancouver on Friday, December 9. Enjoy the great views of the Carol Ship Parade of Lights, as well as the lights of the beautifully decorated buildings along Vancouver Harbour, Granville Island, False Creek and more. The cost of $60 includes dinner, dance and transportation. *PLEASE NOTE: This is an event that is free of drugs and alcohol. Students that come to this event under the influence or in possession of drug or alcohol will not be admitted. Students and their belongings will be searched by Cruise security before boarding. There will be no refunds. All school rules apply. Grad Banquet and Dance The Grad Prom is a formal event where students dress up and spend a memorable evening together. Grads will share in a gourmet buffet dinner. There will be a brief formal program and then Grads dance the night away. Students purchase tickets at the office between April 10 and May 19. Sign-up Apr 10 for a table (seating for 10 per table) - process for table seating TBA. Bussing is available to event site. Sign up for the bus is at the main office window. Prom tickets are picked up in the office June 12-20. Date: June 28th Location: Newlands Golf and Country Club Time: 5:00pm *PLEASE NOTE: This is an event that is free of drugs and alcohol. Students that come to this event suspected to be or under the influence or in possession of drug or alcohol will not be admitted. There will be no refunds. All school rules apply. If it becomes apparent that a student is under the influence, he/she will be directed to leave. RCMP are in attendance. There are NO in and out privileges once you leave you will not be allowed back in! 8 Graduation Transitions (4 credits) Personal Health - maintain a personal health plan and participate in at least 100 hours of moderate to vigorous daily physical activity, in each year: grade 10, 11 and 12 (see your myblueprint.ca). Community Connections participate in at least 30 hours of work experience and/or community service and describe what was learned (see your myblueprint.ca). Career and Life - complete a transition plan and present significant accomplishments, budget, cover letter, resume and exit interview (see your myblueprint.ca) Students do not graduate without completing GT. Make sure you have created your account for your GT portfolio at www.myblueprint.ca (new user activation key is sardis ) (NEW) GT is due Feb 28, 2017 GT Timeline September 2016 Graduation Transition presentation to all Grade 12 students in first Grad Information Meeting on September 15 Students should have set up myblueprint account and working on portfolio fundamentals. If you have questions about GT, contact your supervisor which is your school counselor February 28, 2017 All Grad Transition requirements MUST be completed due April 13, 2017 Students who have not completed the GT requirements will be removed from the Graduation list. Students will not be able to attend graduation activities until GT requirements have been met. Grad Portraits Grad portraits are separated from the regular school pictures and will be taken by a professional photographer from October 13-30 in the McAstocker Theatre at Sardis Secondary. Book an appointment for portrait sittings September 21 October 2 online at https:// booknow.appointment-plus.com/78380p42/. This portrait will be shown at commencement. 5

Grad Rings Grad rings can be purchased through Jostens Grad Rings. Orders may be placed by contacting Annette Van de Kamp at 604-341-4321 or 1-888-746-4626. Grad Information Important information will be provided at Grad Information Meetings held on specific dates during class time. As well, information and input (survey, grad forms, etc) will be required by Grads through their my- Blueprint website (NEW). This gives Grads the opportunity to have input into the Prom theme (colors, flowers, etc.), and selecting a class Valedictorian. It is important to have your voice heard..this is your Graduation!! Make sure you are at the Grad Info Meetings (see pages 10/11 for dates). Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards Financial Opportunities Evening provides parents and students with information about the process of applying for money to assist with post secondary costs. Mark October 27 at 6:30-8:00pm in the PIT on your calendar for this year s informative meeting. Organizations want to give money away to deserving students, BUT you must apply. All scholarships, bursaries and awards will be formally presented at the Awards, Bursaries and Scholarships Evening on June 9, 2017. Post-Secondary Application and PSI Choices Form The PSI Choices must be completed online at www.bced.gov.bc.ca/ exams. Students must log into their secure account and complete the form by June 20 if they wish to have their final marks sent to a postsecondary institution. Make sure you attend the PSI session during Transcript Verification Session in November. Students are recommended to go to the PASBC website at www.pas.bc.ca to apply to the majority of BC s post-secondary institutions. Students should start applying to post-secondary institutions by October 1st. Grad Events (Auction, Commencement, Grad Cruise, Grad Prom, Dry Grad) At the end of Term 3, April 13, you MUST be in a position to complete the course requirements necessary to graduate by June 2017. If you are not in a position to graduate, you are NOT eligible to participate in the Commencement ceremonies, Grad Prom, and Dry Grad. 6 Commencement Ceremony This is a formal ceremony sponsored by the staff and administration of Sardis Secondary School for parents and the community. Date: Friday, June 9, 2017 Time: 6:00 pm (Grads need to be in line by 5:30) Place: Prospera Centre Grads please be at Prospera Centre by 5:00. DO NOT BE LATE! Things to know about Commencement night: This is a formal ceremony. Students must remain in their seats in gown and cap once commencement starts, and remain until the processional leaves at the end of the ceremony. Student and audience behavior is expected to be consistent with a formal ceremony of this type. (no noise makers, socializing during ceremony, leaving for pictures or visiting, etc) Inappropriate behavior diminishes the quality of the ceremony for everyone. Come to the ceremony already dressed in your gown with clothes underneath. (Guys: black dress pants, white dress shirt and black dress shoes. Girls: skirts or dresses with dress shoes). Students keep their gowns, hats and stoles. Gowns must be worn throughout the ceremony. If you want to take pictures at Prospera Centre arrive early and take the pictures with your family before the ceremony. Grads remain in seats during ceremony. You must be in the Processional line up by 5:30. NO LATER! Grad Gowns Grad Gown packages will be distributed in the PIT on June 5 at 2:45 Remember to be at Prospera Centre no later than 5:00 pm Commencement Rehearsal June 9th at Prospera Centre (the morning of Commencement) All Grads are bussed to and from the Centre at 8:45 a.m. NO EX- CEPTIONS! Report to period 1 first. Following the June 9 rehearsal, Grads will be bussed back to Sardis Secondary for a lunch (provided) There will be no afternoon classes for Grade 12s Remember to be at Prospera Centre no later than 5:00 pm 7
