INTERNATIONAL FACULTY Dr Masaaki Ito Dr Masaaki Ito is the Head of Colorectal & Urology Surgery Department as well as the Head of Division of Surgical Technology, National Cancer Center Hospital East, Kashiwa, Japan. Dr. Ito, born in 1968, was given the Medical Doctor degree from Chiba University in 1993. Having gone through as an assistant in the Department of General Surgery at Graduate School, Chiba University and attending surgeon in the Department of General Surgery, Social Insurance Funabashi Central Hospital, he worked at National Cancer Center hospital East Japan as a resident doctor until 1998. From 1998 to 2000, he worked at Division of Immunology, Kurume University as an assistant of Professor Kyogo Itoh, and returned to National Cancer Center Hospital East in 2000. He is widely recognised as a world leading expert on Minimally Invasive Surgery and is acknowledged as one of the leading authority and surgical expert in pelvic surgery as well as TaTME. Dr Roel Hompes Dr Roel Hompes is consultant in Surgical Oncology and Gastrointestinal Surgery at Department of Surgery, Academic Medical Centre since 2017. Prior to that, Dr Hompes was consultant surgeon at the at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. He is especially skilled in Minimally Invasive Surgery and has published several peer-reviewed scientific papers and book chapters in colorectal surgery. Dr Hompes is a world-leading authority, surgical pioneer and acclaimed trainer in TaTME and was instrumental in setting up the TaTME training & proctoring programme in UK. Dr Hompes is currently running the international Registry on Trans-Anal Total Meso-rectal Excision, which is the largest international database for TaTME surgery after having enrolled more than 2000 patients so far. Dr Pieter Tanis Dr Pieter Tanis is a consultant in Surgical Oncology and Gastro-intestinal Surgery at Department of Surgery, Academic Medical Centre since 2010. He is also Chairman of the Dutch Colorectal Cancer Group, Board Member of the Dutch Surgical Colorectal Audit (DSCA) and Dutch Peritoneal Oncology Group (DPOG), a Member of the advisory board of the Maag Lever Darm Stichting (MLDS) and Lynch-Polyposis Society, Member of the National Colorectal Cancer Guideline Committee and Associate Editor of Colorectal Disease and Digestive Surgery. Dr Tanis main focus is in colorectal cancer, both primary tumor and metastatic diseases, with particular focus on Minimally Invasive Surgery. He has published over 140 articles in peer reviewed journals. Dr Charnjiroj Thiptanakit Dr Charnjiroj Thiptanakit is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Colorectal Surgery Division, Department of Surgery at King Chulalongkorn Memoral Hospital, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok, Thailand. Dr Charnjiroj is a preeminent oncological surgeon in colorectal malignancies. He is one of the leading experts in pelvic surgery in Asia, particularly for advanced pelvic colorectal malignancies including for pelvic exenteration surgery and lateral pelvic lymph node dissection. The colorectal unit at King Chulalongkorn Memoral Hospital is world renowned for their advanced cadaveric colorectal masterclass training including in specialist skills training for advanced pelvic surgery and lateral pelvic node dissection.
