The Office of Special Events plans and coordinates over 100 events each year including: exhibition openings, press conferences, donation ceremonies, staff receptions, donor cultivation events, and corporate dinners and receptions. The office is characterized by a busy but proactive environment that strives to forward the goals of the Smithsonian Institution by connecting with the community and public at large. We offer an unparalleled opportunity for students/individuals interested in event planning and coordinating to delve into the museum environment and gain hands-on skills from a highly esteemed workplace. Our interns are given a great deal of responsibility and permitted the chance to develop their writing skills, interact with museum officials, work with caterers and vendors, and staff numerous special events. As an intern, you will be exposed to the nuances of protocol and
frequently accompany staff members for on-site visits with potential donors and walk-throughs with clients and vendors. Duties may include: Coordinating and attending receptions, dinners, conferences, donation ceremonies, and other special events at the Museum. Planning menus, décor, entertainment Managing invitation lists, managing responses and guest lists, and taking the lead on the printing and mailing of invitations Determining protocol and overseeing the printing and mailing of invitations. Law Office Social Media Internship Sticklen & Dreyer Law Firm, which has offices in both Columbia and Joplin, MO, is seeking a social media intern to manage the firm s various social media accounts. The intern hired for this position will be responsible for expanding the firm s current social media outreach as well as creating successful campaigns to help foster improved interaction with both the Columbia and Joplin communities. The focus of these efforts shall be to both increase the firm s web presence and draw in potential new clients. MS Foundation Internship The National Multiple Sclerosis Society mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and to address the challenges of everyone affected by MS. To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through
effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning. Under the general supervision of a Development Coordinator, the intern will be a key member of our mass market events staff team, working on a variety of projects that will develop customer service, fundraising, marketing and event planning skills. These projects include portfolio management of participants, event marketing, event logistics and community engagement initiatives. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: Portfolio management. You'll get your own portfolio of participants and teams to coach through their fundraising journey for Bike MS. Community outreach. You'll be working in the community, establishing partnerships with local business and organizations, encouraging participation, in-kind donations and volunteering. Event promotion. Posters, pamphlets, informational letters, emails, online calendars, media inquiries... you name it. You'll be promoting the events to increase fundraising and participation. Event logistics. Assist the logistics team with event needs and seek out ways to improve the event! Think outside of the box and execute.
