Community Newsletter Week of May 28 - June 1, 2018 A publication of the City of Dodge City Public Information Office 1. The Ford County Historical Society will be celebrating their 50th anniversary this Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm. The Home of Stone opened its doors on June 1, 1968. Built in 1881, the home is one of the oldest in Dodge City in its original location and provides informative tours daily during the summer months. For more information call 620-227-6791 or visit https://www. facebook.com/muellerschmidthouse/. 2. 6th Ave. Extension The contractor is working on finishing up the project. All the pavement, sidewalks, trail, and ramps have been placed. The contractor is finishing up with final grading and sealing the pavement joints. Pavement markings will be the final part of the project and should be done sometime in the next two weeks. After the pavement markings are down and the signal at 6th Ave. & Ross Blvd. is operational, the new street will be opened to traffic. 3. Soule St. Extension The contractor has made the connection to the 16 waterline under 14th Ave. The concrete patch on 14th Ave. should be completed next week. Work will continue on the installation of the underground utilities over the next few weeks. 4. Central Ave. & University Dr. Intersection Improvements Due to the rainy weather the project is on hold until the sub-grade can be dried. The waterline work associated with the project has been completed. 5. This week DCFD personnel have been refreshing their technical rescue skills and practicing different techniques in vehicle extrication and other rescue disciplines. Some of what was stressed in this training session was the use of airbags and other hydraulic and manual tools for lifting vehicles or other heavy machinery or objects off of victims. After training with all of the tools and going over safety protocols a scenario with trapped victims was completed. After the scenario, an after action review going over what went right and ways that improvements can be made in these types of incidents was done.

6. Sanitation will be replacing the alley bins with poly karts in the area from Ave A to Ave D the week of June 11th. The first pickup for this area will be June 25th and customers are to have the karts out at the curb by 7:00 A.M. 7. Water crews had a main break Monday, May 28th, at Ave B and Elm. Crews were able to expose and repair the line in the same day with limited water interruption to services. 8. If you are traveling on the night train at the Santa Fe Depot you may have met Barbara Woods. Barbara greets and assists Amtrak passengers and has worked at the station since July of 2017. However, this week you will find Barbara and her daughter Katrice leading the United States Bowling Congress Women's Championships. Barbara is a 13 time USBC Women's Championship participant and her daughter is making her 4th tournament appearance. Congratulations to Barbara and Katrice, we wish you all the best. The complete article can be found at https://www.bowl.com/news/newsdetails. aspx?id=23622331260#.ww_2bl4tmjm.email 9. The Dodge City Convention and Visitors Bureau would like to encourage all employers with front-line staff to have employees take the free Kansas at Your Service Hospital Training. Information below

10. The summer heat is here and many are looking to cool off. The Developmental Services and Inspections Department would like to remind residents of the City s swimming pool regulations. Swimming pools are defined as any structure intended for swimming or recreational bathing that contains water over 24 inches deep. This includes in-ground, aboveground and onground swimming pools; hots tubs; portable and non-portable spas; and fixed-in-place wading pools. All outdoor swimming pools are required to have a barrier or fence surrounding the entire swimming pool that obstructs access to the pool. Barriers must be installed, inspected, and approved prior to plastering or filling the pool with water. 11. The Long Branch Lagoon water park is officially open for the 2018 season. Go to http://www.lblagoon.com/ to view special events, water exercise class and swimming lesson schedules, buy your season pass, and more!
